Uh huh. That was my point. Despite all the assurances that RINO McCain, hated by the base for opposing the Bush tax cuts and calling Falwell's crowd "agents of intolerance" and equivocating on whether Roe v. Wade should be overturned... he was nominated.
This time, it's Romney, in the same position, the RINO who can't possibly be the nominee... at least, according to the same people who insisted John McCain couldn't possibly win the nomination.
True, Gibbous, as the sole adult at the debate, MR will prevail. THis, w/o him, is the Gilligan's Island field. And yes, JM heard the same stuff MR is. The states that matter are not the openers, and they require money, organization, and above all else, non wacko candidates. That takes out all but MR and Huntsman. Huntsman does not have the org or money.
Why would you insist that this is any more grandiose a circus than almost every other presidential nomination for either party than we've become accustomed to for decades? The only thing in this cycle that really is much different is that the states have been pushing up primary dates, which is hardly the fault of any candidate.

Have you seen the candidates? I've seen more lucidity on Jersey Shore.
