High court halts new Texas electoral maps - Yahoo! News

Here we go again. The conservative justices again are practicing their judicial activism yet again.

I was going to post about this myself.

They just blocked the map temporarily and will be deciding this later. They're hearing arguments on January 9.

To be honest, I agree with their decision. I don't think it's exactly fair that some states can gerrymander with absolutely no restrictions but others can't. Yeah, I understand the Voting Rights Act's purpose but nowadays, redistricting is not being done (at least not in TX) with the intent of diluting the voting power of minorities. It's being done for partisan purposes, yes, but a lot of blue states do it too.

Well the House & Senate in Texas is very Conservative. One seat from a super majority.

The districts were drawn up after the census and we gained 2 seats from New York.

If it was conservative judges practicing anything, it would not be considered activism.

When the Democrats draw up maps excluding the Republican voters... everything is grand and everybody is happy.

When the Republicans do the same thing to the Dems... it's "Not Fair".

BOO HOO HOO
