BOSTON — Soon after Mitt Romney handed out eye-popping bonuses to top performers at his private equity firm in the early 1990s, a young employee invited him to ride in his brand-new toy — a $90,000 Porsche 911 Carrera.
Mr. Romney was entranced by the sleek, supercharged vehicle: at the end of a spin around downtown Boston, he turned to the employee, Marc Wolpow, and marveled, “Boy, I really wish I could have one of these things.” Mr. Wolpow was dumbfounded. “You could have 12 of them,” he recalled thinking to himself.
But Mr. Romney had frequently driven an inexpensive, domestic stalwart that looked out of place in the company parking lot — a Chevrolet Caprice station wagon with red vinyl seats and a banged-up front end.
It was a stark sign of the tug of war, still evident in Mr. Romney’s life, between an instinctive, at times comical frugality, and an embrace of the lavish lifestyle that accompanied his swelling Wall Street fortune.
Mr. Romney, 64, has poured $52 million of his own money into campaigns for the Senate and the White House, but is obsessed with scoring cheap flights on the discount airline JetBlue.

Yeah, the greasy-haired, flip-flopping is real thrifty alright...with his gargantuan mansions in Utah and New Hampshire, his $12 million dollar oceanfront property in California, his $250 million he inherited from rich daddy, and offering $10,000 bets as casually as us "little people" offer to bet 5 bucks or a beer.

Oh yeah, the MORmON scumbag is real thrifty alright....and in related news, I'm the King of England. LMAO!!!!!

But I'll concede one thing: Flip-Flop Romney was thrifty when it came to shipping American jobs to China and India, destroying companies, and pocketing the cash.

And also, the headline TWO ROMNEYS is a quite accurate description of Reversible Mittens.

I guess you didn't know that he gave all of his inheritance to charity. He's a real scumbag to do that isn't he? Anytime you post on here, nobody pays any attention to your bigoted ignorance.

Grow up and read a little something to broaden your horizons. You can read, can't you?

He's a good private sector businessman no doubt. Paying bonuses to retain good employees is an excellent practice that Rockefeller popularized.

Oh, absolutely. Everyone here can relate to this, right?

"[Romney is] planning to quadruple the size of his $12 million oceanfront property in the La Jolla section of San Diego. Mr. Romney recently filed an application to bulldoze his 3,009-square-foot, three-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home and replace it with an 11,062-square-foot, two-story residence."

A monster McMansion on the sea. How very frugal.

Jude, I put in the "LOL" to indicate sarcasm.

Anyway, given he is planning on building such a big place in San Diego, he must realize that he will not be moving to the White House.
