Former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson will drop out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination and instead seek to run as a Libertarian, according to the Independent Political Report.
The switch, which has been rumored for weeks, is set to be announced Tuesday.
Their stances on fiscal and economic issues are supported by many GOP/conservative voters. Some of the more socially liberal (or anti-war) Republican voters could vote for Johnson instead of the Republican candidate.

Not really. Both support ending the military industrial complex, against the corporatist fascism, and the massive bailouts to the large corporations, all GOP staples.
Both may have an (R) next to their names, but they are no republicans.

Point taken, but their stances appeal to many conservative voters who would otherwise vote for Republicans as "the lesser of two evils."

The GOP hasn't been the party of fiscal conservationism since Nixon. Being anti-paying taxes does not equal fiscal conservative. You can blame Democrats for a lot of our financial mess but at least they are honestly tax and spend, rather than spend and spend.
Okay, with that out of the way... I kind of like Johnson. He seems rather rational and reasoned in his policy stances. Plus, Johnson style Libertarians won't be talking about their candidate like they just got out of a church revival meeting.
I wonder if Paul supporters will jump on his bandwagon if he doesn't get the GOP nod?
This will effect the general election if mitt or newt is the nominee.
Again you can blame the republicans actually for not including him the debates and the media.
What other option does he have.
