Default Looks like Obama is victory no matter which way you slice it.

It's looking like a Romney vs Ron Paul nomination for the GOP already.

If Romney is the nominee, he'll lose a solid 15-20% who will vote for Ron Paul, 3rd party, or Gary Johnson, Libertarian.

If Ron Paul is the nominee, he's apparently unelectable according to many. So it's looking like a win for Obama. I'm moving to Australia.

Nope.

According to this recent poll, 88% of Republicans are committed to voting for Romney if he is the nominee.

Right. 88% of Republicans. And how many people self-describe as Republican., 30 some % is it?

Romney leads Obama 45-36 with Independents in that poll.

Also, check out the third page of that press release. It seems that with Johnson or Paul in the race as an independent, Obama does better, but not so much that it indicates Romney is unelectable.

The other thing is that a lot of Republicans may be "undecided" right now because they don't really want to vote for Romney but when Romney is the nominee they will realize it's either him or Obama and get behind him. The same may apply to a lot of independent Paul and Johnson supporters - they'd have to really hold their noses, but many might vote for "anyone but Obama" who has a chance.

The election is 10 months off. The momentum pendulum will make several swings in that time.

Bon voyage. America doesn't really need any more "sunshine patriots."

Are you insinuating that Romney will be able to capture the die hard Ron Paul supporters? Get real.

No, but he might be able to capture some of the moderate ones who are fed up with the current administration and who actually see reality. Hardcore Ron Paul lovers live in Dream World/Fantasy Land so, no, he won't be able to get their vote.

A victory simply because there is no competition doesn't exactly say much. Apathy is rampant in this country.

and what about those young people and blacks that voted in 2008 that might very well not vote this time? Oh, and what makes you think only Romney or Paul can get the nomination? You obviously are hoping it will go that way, but a hope is just that, it isn't set at this time. Oh, one more thing it is unlikely Romney would lose 15 to 20%. It is unlikely Paul has that many supporters and some of his supporters will vote Republican.

At this point, Romney is the only one who has any shot in hell of getting the nomination. And he's also the only Republican candidate who has any shot in hell of winning the general election.
