All those Hillary Clinton for vice president rumors and whispers remain just that, but they got a little louder on Monday, with the New York Times’ Bill Keller making a rather high-profile pitch for President Obama to swap his current veep with his secretary of state.
Keller, who stepped down from his post as the Gray Lady’s executive editor earlier this year to become a columnist, writes that the push to draft the former first lady to replace Obama atop the Democratic ticket is "preposterous" and "exaggerates his vulnerability and discounts Hillary’s loyalty." The idea that the president should send Biden to the State Department and replace him with Clinton, however, "is something else."
"It has been kicking around on the blogs for more than a year without getting any traction, mainly because it has been authoritatively, emphatically dismissed by Hillary, Biden and Team Obama," Keller writes. "It’s time to take it seriously."
Maybe the president will be seriously considering giving the Madam Secretary a call after Rep. Ryan is announced tomorrow.
He doesn't think that he can win with Biden, does he?
Why? Biden is actually liked among just about everyone in Capitol Hill. Besides, Hillary is doing a great job as Secretary and could run for president in 2016.
