I suppose it doesn't matter, unless in a few months, it actually does matter!

If Santorum actually won and Newt pulls off an upset in SC, this could end up being the turning point in the nomination. I don't know how it will play out, but it will likely mean the campaigning will go on for a while because Romney will not be able to say he has the clear path to the nomination. I suspect that if Newt does really good in SC, there will be people pressuring Santorum and Perry to get out so Newt can go toe to toe with Romney.

I don't get it, I'm confused... How do you lose votes from so many precincts? Why is this just being shrugged off as oh well it will just be a tie?

Iowa does not allow cross-party voting. You must be registered with a party to vote for a candidate in that party's caucus.

This is far from the first time I've had to correct someone on this. I wonder where this misinformation is coming from?

You can register as a Republican at the caucus. When the other party has no race to decide, they do cross to get the least competition on the ballot.

Why is that?
Mainly because it doesn't charge the delegae count. that is why.

but they allow you register at the time so it is similar to cross voting. You are right, people seem to have trouble understanding the system..
