And some of you conservos keep talking about how "smart" Newtie is. Maybe it's just me, but a truly smart guy can control his mouth when he needs to. Of course, Newt's verbal honesty gives everyone a clear view of his prejudices, doesn't it?
The hispanics are populating our country at a rapid rate. Very scary! But Newt.. You obviously don't want to be president..we get that...SHUT UP already ! I agree with alot of what he wants to do but he seems hell bent on offending every group along the way!
He lost the Latino vote by making what appears, at first glance, a part elitist/racist statement, because 1.) People are sensitive to criticism and 2.) He didn't clarify what he meant. His statement is at least ambigious. People in this country who only know Spanish have very limited opportunity since Spanish is only spoken by 10-12% of the overall population. The consequence of only able to converse in a minority language in a country where English is still dominant would have you trapped in the ghetto/barrios. That is probably what he meant by ''Spanish is the language of the ghetto.'' I think even he knows there are nearly two dozen countries where Spanish is the de facto or de jure language, and everyone in Latin America doesn't live in the ghettos. The wealthiest man in the world is a Mexican businessman.
So first to Newtie it's "food stamps" for black people and now speaking Spanish means you live in the "ghetto"?

He was probably reading spanish off a teleprompter the way he paused after every 5 words or so. I speak spanish about that bad but then it isn't a language I want to perfect just like the hispanics who butcher our language. Even that hispanic comic (blanking on name) imitates their butchering!
^^^^^All Latino comics make fun of Spanglish. Which is a language of the ghetto.
As a bilingual speaker who has lived in a barrio/ghetto, nothing that Newt stated was inaccurate.
It also depends on what ghetto your living in as well. Ebonics is also the language of ghettos.
