When you check both records, Romney gets credit for conservative positions that he never implemented and Gingrich gets criticized for liberal positions that he has no record of voting for. Overall the record looks like Romney is a compromising legislator and Gingrich more a conservative president.

Romney left the governorship with a 35% approval rating and Cato giving him a D scorecard.

To say that Gingrich has the worst past record is ridiculous. Aside from his infidelities, I am looking at policy record. Romney aligns more with Obama than Gingrich ever has or will.

We still don't have all the information we need on Romney's overseas investments. His tax returns list 23 funds and partnerships that didn't appear on his personal financial statements - forms that are required by Federal law.

Everything discussed here has intertwined with the opening thread. That's how some threads go.

I wouldn't mind seeing Newt in an advisory role, but he's got far too much baggage to beat Obama.

Santorum, Gingrich and Romeny are all equally guilty of compromising their values and casting their vote for whatever would get them reelected. Newt has been especially guilty of this.

If you wanted a spotless voting record, vote for Ron Paul.

If you don't like Ron Paul, then you'll have to choose between three equal flip-floppers.

With that in mind, why is Newt better than Romney? The worst private life scandal they've dug up to use against Romney is the dog in the modified dog carrier on top of the car -- pretty pathetic considering that his critics have had six years to dig up dirt on him. You'd think they'd have found something better by now. The fact that they haven't speaks volumes!

With Newt Gingrich, you've got a guy who is unelectable purely on his history that is already public knowledge. With that much scandal already out in the open, how much worse does it get when the Dems and others really start digging?? Romney is going after Newt, but he's pulling his punches. Obama won't be so kind.
Ron Paul will never win because of his foreign policy stance.

What, Newt didn't have enough integrity to feel disgrace? No shock there.
