I can see with the way some of you express yourself, why it's amazing to you that Mitt Romney knows people who own Nascar teams or his wife drives a Caddilac. However, most Americans are not amazed by such things. It's not an oddity to them.

The problem Romney has in this election is that he will not be seen as empathetic or understanding of the needs of average citizens. As has been pointed out before, rich guys can win like Roosevelt and Kennedy. But they must convey a GENUINE understanding of the issues facing typical voters. Romney comes across as a phony and dishonest in this and so many other respects. He should have stayed away from Daytona. He looked ridiculous there and sounded even worse.

That's mainly because most Democrats who know people who drive Cadillac also know they're stolen or bought with drug money.

so you think that Romney's attempts at connecting with an average american by saying something like "a couple cadillacs actually" makes sense to most americans?

I get what he was trying to do, but you really think he was successful? Forget the person's politics for a minute, and just think about what you would say to try and connect with average americans. You think most americans know someone who owns a Nascar team? You think most americans could fathom owning 2 cadillacs? Both of those are luxuries, by any measure. Granted, i think a number of Americans could own 1 cadillac. but 2 luxury vehicles would be a stretch.

Daytona is perfect for a shill like Romney. . . Like Romney, the cars only go left and after a long while finish at the exact same spot they started!

I was watching meet the press yesterday and one of the women on the panels made a good point. Romney is rich, wealthy, and cannot connect with average americans - we know that, and it's not going to change. The question is - how much will it matter? As long as people believe his methods could "fix" our country's issues, will they care about him connecting with the average American.

If the answer to that is yes, then he is in trouble. If it's no, then Democrats are in trouble.

He's got money, he's got wealthy friends, he's a tough businessman... we got it.

Never mind the millions of dollars he has personally spent into a dismal economy. Does anyone ever think about how many jobs Romney and other multimillionaires are supporting every time they open their wallets?

Maybe to employ new workers at the banks in tax havens like the caymans, to the salesmen at the yacht dealership, or to the illegals he hires to do his landscaping on one of his numerous mansions

Romney even said himself he likes to fire people. He's so out of touch with reality it's not even funny.

Given these criteria who was the last president that was actually in touch with the American people? Certainly you can't claim that Obama, the millionaire, Ivy league graduate, author and Senator knows what it's like to be a poor middle class working man can you?

That is sort of a reach and ridiculous. I even have friends who own a Nascar team. So what?
It just shows that in addition to being a complete flip flopper/habitual hypocrite, he can't even pander properly.
