That education didn't seem to have a negative impact on Santorum or his highly educated parents, or his higly educated GOP rivals. If my dad had I Phd. I'd be proud of it. Santorum has more college education than Oabma.

Reading the replies on this thread shows me the total ignorance of liberal Democrats .

I just want to say that I went to college, and most of this "indoctrination" stuff is garbage.
I think it's fairly well-known that professors lean liberal. But there's definitely a wide spectrum of opinions across faculty. Plus, believe it or not, but most professors are reasonable people and accept a large range of opinions as long as they are grounded by well-supported arguments. I wrote papers against PETA and pro "the purpose of life is serving God" and got good grades on them, because I actually put the effort in to explain my reasoning. Furthermore, the professors that force students to toe their extremist liberal viewpoint line are generally disliked by students. They see through the attempted indoctrination and it fails. I know it's a right-wing fantasy for these liberal professors brainwashing hordes of unsuspecting students into become socialists or whatever, but students aren't that stupid.
I would say that in the circles that I hang out with (college graduates,) most are conservative or moderate, with a few being liberal. It's not that much different from the general population. The only thing I do notice is that the conservative and moderate majority wants solid reasoning and concrete plans to solidify their positions, not mindless rhetoric. Maybe if the Republican candidates could step up their game instead of appearing to the lowest common denominator that they could strongly defeat Obama instead of throwing the election away.
I don't think Santorum is particularly anti-education or anti-intellectual per se. What he opposes is the culture of the so-called "intellectual elites", who he refers to as the "Village Elders" in his It Takes a Family. There is definitely a set of values - a whole subculture, really - in this country shared by academia, the media, some in politics, and perhaps many other upper-middle class professionals (they are the ones who tend to be more intellectual in their tastes and also more educated).
It is secular, rather than Christian, and seeks to innovate rather than to conserve. It condones the existence of abortion clinics, supports the homosexual movement, and is otherwise sexually amoral. It tolerates little open dissent in these matters: try, as a college professor, denouncing homosexuality, or claiming that women SHOULD NOT be able to have abortions or even should ideally stay home if they have children, and see the backlash from others in the subculture. Heresy! More philosophically, it tends towards denial of the existence of absolute moral truths and negation of the supernatural.
Santorum sees this set of values as morally defective, and he also views those who hold this worldview as using their high posts to try to impose it, and largely succeeding - through the popular media, through education (particularly college education, which is more immune to the outrage of parents), through public policy, etc., upon Joe Six-Pack, his wife, and three children. That's it. In reality, he probably isn't any more "anti-intellectual" than the majority of college professors.
I'm sure he would be far more benevolent towards the Ivory Towers if they embraced Thomism rather than, say, anti-essentialism. They both want to dictate their vision of what the world should be to society, and structure it in a way that reflects this vision; only Santorum proudly admits it.
