As happy as many conservatives seem to be about this, I think the odds of her replacement being more conservative are about 1 in 100. This is an almost certain Democratic pick-up, and it's a huge blow to our chances of taking the Senate. I personally am more conservative than Snowe, but I know I could at least count on one vote from her - a vote for McConnell as majority leader. And I know, you guys mentioned you don't like McConnel either. Does Harry Reid sound better?

Her reasons for leaving are quite telling. There's no room in our government for a moderate Republican who doesn't march in lock step and blindly follow party ideology, good of the country be damned.

As a conservative Republican, I find this very sad. There needs to be moderates on both sides for the good of national discourse

Exactly. Snowe was one of the only somewhat sane people with an (R) next to their name in congress. She got tons of heat from McConnel and the extreme right if she would even think about being rational on the issues, it was side with the far right or "or else".
I think she's had it with the disgrace the GOP has become and would rather walk away a true conservative, than have to be forced by your own party to be a phony, extreme right brainwashed goon trying to destroy america like the rest of the GOP.
