There are 18,000 married gay and lesbian couples in California and at least 131,000 nationwide according to the 2010 census, conducted before New York state legalized same-sex marriage in July.

Rick Santorum says he'll try to unmarry all of them if he's elected president.
Santorum backs nullifying existing gay marriages (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/03/02/BA3Q1N9EV9.DTL#ixzz1oArePHt2 - broken link)

Isn't this a bit extreme?

As a republican, I don't understand why so many liberals are so fascinated by this ass clown.

Santorum knows his bid is over. So I guess he is back to a fulltime cultural warrior.

No -- it's very extreme, which pretty much describes Rick Santorum.

Happily, the President has little power to 'invalidate' marriages. He can be part of the federal government not recognizing certain marriages -- but the federal government already does that.

However, the President can play no role in invalidating state marriages, other than begging Congress and the state legislatures to amend the Constitution to ban same-sex marriages -- something which has absolutely no chance of ever happening.

You are correct.Santorum can say whatever he wants but a properly worded constitutional amendment is the only way it can happen.....and there is no way that IS going to happen so its just lip service and means nothing.
