This is the problem with the vote: No transparency. The director can call whoever the winner is and not allow to be change. That just paper. On electronic voting machine, this can be manipulated with lines of code.
Alaska is hardly a libertarian state, I don't know why people even think that. Literally EVERYONE in the state gets a government check every year from oil revenue. They elected moderate Republican Lisa Murkowski over teabagger Joe Miller. The king of pork Ted Stevens represented them for almost 4 decades and a prince of pork Don Young continues to represent them in the House. Alaskans more like to fancy themselves self reliant but complain like hell when they don't get they gubmint check.
How did Ron Paul Lose Alaska?
Quite simple really, he got less votes than the winner.
Maybe there are a lot of vets living there. We keep hearing about the vets supporting him: today, at our monthly neighborhood breakfast the subject of the campaign came up: here is how the vets feel about Pau: 1-served in Korea (yes, he is about 80) thinks Paul has a screw lose: 2 are retired military, one was an officer, one enlisted: both served in Nan, neither support him: 1 guy has his not active military son visiting and he was at the breakfast: not a Paul supporter. One women, who lost her grandson 3 years ago in Iralast year in Iraq can't understand how Paul can feel and say the things he does.
This isn't saying, all vets feel this way, but this does give another side of the story about all the vets that support him.

Right, and as I noted they didn't just elect Murkowski over the teaparty guy but after they didn't bother to show up on primary day and the teaparty guy actually won the republican nomination they were so desperate to keep the pork coming that they went through the trouble to actually write in Murkowski to keep her in Wash DC.
Maybe we should try the 'alaska model' on a national scale.Whoever gets the republican nomination can run as a republican.....and the losers can run write in campaigns.....as republicans too.

That whole deal had establishment status quo written all over it

Its not just that Ron Paul got less votes than the surprised winner Romney, but he also didn't seem to interest the voters. No one has been more consistent with energy independence as Gingrich, who Sarah Palin voted for. I think Romney and Santorum gained votes there by their momentum at the time.
It's Palin though man, come on. She probably thinks that creating a manned moon base in 8 years is a great idea. She can see it from her window. I can see the SNL skits now.
