Couples had fewer years between their sexual debut and marriage. Although most still had pre-marital sex, I suspect that it was in a committed relationship, often an engagement. The average number of sexual partners for women who were young then is like 1.5 - 2.

When a woman happened to get pregnant outside of wedlock, she married the man. This may not have been the most ideal situation, but at least it did not lead to the "baby's daddy" and "father of five different children from three different women" situation so common today among the working and lower classes.

Although "softcore" pornography was making its debut, disgusting, filthy, and degrading hardcore pornography was nearly non-existent.

Homosexuality was still recognized as a psychological disorder by the APA.

I'll admit that many were hypocritical then. But proclaiming that something wrong is right and then openly doing it is a whole lot better than rightly disapproving of immorality but covertly practicing it. Lots of more people are led astray by the first.

Only much of that does not escape the influence (or at least apparent influence) of pornography. Just look at this year's Superbowl Half-Time Show.

Who appointed you as the arbiter of what consitutes 'sexual morality'? I consider sexual morality to be loyalty in a commited relationship and from I read there was certainly no shortage of cheaters in the era you consider so morally superior to today.

Right, there were no candy stores with back rooms and under the counter 'dirty books, eh? And once again, who are you to judge what's 'filthy'?

Is homophobia now an 'official' standard for judging morality?

Proclaiming something you believe is wrong is wrong for everyone is far worse and unacceptable.

I just don't get the need to fight these battles that were lost ages ago. GOP seems to be stuck in some time warp...

I think a lot of American women would disagree with you there...

Do you think morfality is confined to sexual matters?

Do you believe it 'morally superior' that we've becaome a society that takes more offense at nude human bodies than young bodies lost on the battlefield for no good purpose?

It's not just today, I well remember during the Vietnam era many being far more vocal and incensed by 'Free Love' than over a costly war that had no purpose. To me, that's the height of immorality.

You certainly show your ability to use appropriate terms "retarded"? Only a parent that is ignorant of the term would use that word so you are setting an excellent example for your children. So, I am guessing that you are a stay-at-home parent that doesn't let their children go anywhere without you because otherwise, you are not controlling whether or not your children are seeing porn. You also don't know the costs involved and the number of people who lose jobs and their families because of an addiction to porn. The worst story I ever heard was a father stuck his 2 year old daughter in the tub with the water running and went down stairs to catch a couple minutes of porn viewing only to see water running down the stairs and thankfully the child was OK. Unless you understand the problem that porn has become, it might be wise not to judge the statements of others because that makes you ignorant about what you are discussing. Retarded is a term applied to people like my son who is developmentally disabled.
