Poll: Primary battle has hurt GOP's image among young, non-whites - latimes.com

Karl Rove, Ken Mehlman, and Michael Steele - among others - have tried to make the Republican Party more appealing to non-white voters, but it's not working.

Why isn't the GOP more appealing to non-whites, and what can they do to change that? Or should they even try?

We discuss this ad naseum. I think that many black voters are open to the GOP platform for the same reasons white ones are. They have an appealing message of low taxation, personal responsibility, pro-family, etc. Unfortunately, there are rarely two successive days that go by during which a prominent member of the GOP does not say something stupid about black people. Once they quit doing that, they will probably start attracting some black votes.

Well, Obama did win the category of people making over $200K per year in 2008, so I don't assume that the rich vote for Republicans as a rule.

The problem is that they will NEVER stop doing that because they do not want the Black vote.

They're going to have to stop eventually. Racists are a dying breed. This moment in time is comical though. They say they want the black vote, but then they say that blacks are on welfare, want handouts, are plantation slaves (that's one of the better things they say), etc. Then, they blame liberals for misleading blacks. Comical. What exactly do liberals do? Oh yeah, they say that they believe in racial equality and think that all people regardless of background or origin should get a fair shake. Gee, black Americans must be crazy for that message to appeal to them.

Its more of what have they done to alienate these groups. The answer is plenty. From being totally mean sprited toward a President popular with these groups to out right naming them as the enemy.
