Most are aware of GS contributing to election campaigns, but many may not know this.

I thought this deserved its own thread. For those who may care to know, but may have missed some of this information.

From the Wikipedia link
Election Systems & Software (ES&S) is an American company that provides voting services.
ES&S is a subsidiary of McCarthy Group, LLC, which is jointly held by the holding firm and the Omaha World-Herald Company, the publisher of Nebraska's largest newspaper. As of 2007 it was the largest manufacturer of voting machines in the United States, claiming customers in 1,700 localities. As of 2007 it had approximately 350 employees; 2005 revenues were $117 million.[1] In December 2011, the Election Assistance Commission issued a formal notice of investigation into the DS200 Precinct Count Optical Scanner because of three operational anomalies.

But in 2003, New Hampshire ballots were ever-so-quietly EXCLUDED from public right to know. How could this happen?

So supposedly 97%+ of votes go thru these systems. All privately held companies w/ no transparency. All trade secrets and holes like swiss cheese. Oh and they aren't cheap.

Ok need to clarify the Diebold sell off and update of the big 4 vendors.

Federal funding for HAVA (Help America Vote Act) helped opened the door to this.

Apparently ES&S was made to sell PES (Diebold) in 2010 after acquiring in 09.

Dominion Voting Systems bought PES in 5/10 then 6/10 bought Sequoia.

ES&S
Diebold>Premier>ES&S>DVS
Sequoia>DVS
Hart InterCivic

Dominion Voting Systems(privately owned in Denver founded/HQ in Canada)
Dominion Voting Systems -(Canadian to CO) Not sure about finances yet.
Dominion CEO John Poulos and James Hoover.

ES&S(McCarthy Capital)

Hart InterCivic - Austin,TX (H.I.G. Capital, miami,fl transnational 8.5bil)
JPM,GS,Citi peeps also.

Project Everest-"Hackers" testing of vote systems-in depth on ES&S found they were able to buy keys off of ebay to pick locks and couldn't find a single area they couldn't compromise easily despite security. They could upload code that could infect the entire system.

They also don't seem too accessible in relation to HAVA. These same companies have been contracted to deal w/ voter reg and personal info in places. Princeton showed how easily Diebolds were hacked also.

This is new from Argonne. So for about $10-26 you can MiM attack Diebold mach. Seq was pretty easy also.

This is a good doc that one of the early clips is from called "Hacking Democracy".

So, if it were so easy to rig the voting machines to produce whatever outcome one wanted, why would Republicans be working so hard to suppress the vote of poor people and minorities?

If you are referring to Photo ID I think the FED govt is largely responsible. Though I suppose you could blame that on R too, but I don't see any repeals happening. They started all this Real ID mess. They are the worst offenders.

States have jumped on the bandwagon. Tho some haven't, but photo id has been pushed for awhile. I think it is as offensive to everyone as it is to minorities. Reasonable ID should be fine, as long as it is not burdensome and it is cheap.

However, I think this by far is the biggest concern in regard to voting. Next is the corruption, that is bipartisan. So is the corporatization of our vote.

This one is called Stealing America:vote by vote (10 parts) Covers a wide range of 2004 Elections issues. This part 3 discusses Edison's change of polling data to conform to the vote. Clint's testimony of solicitation to create a vote flipping program is in 5&6.

Interesting docs I have seen indicating Kerry may known the machines were rigged.

Keep in mind the 16 trillion in Bailouts from the Fed. This was posted almost a yr ago.

Goldman Sachs managing and owning US elections along w/ JPM and Citi people should be a concern.
So is how little we know about these companies and systems. We know this due to HR 1207 which despite overwhelming support didn't make it, but made enough noise to get something.

An important thing that people should realize is that information I have posted shows that with little to no modification you can effect these machines remotely. That could be more local or further away. Possibly even via satellite.

Apparently there is some history of corruption and conflicts with these arrangements. Sure no one is shocked.

Kucinich tried to help in 2006 with Paper Ballot Act of 2006, but it died.
H.R. 6200 (109th): Paper Ballot Act of 2006 - GovTrack.us

This 2007 report to congress on this issue has some good info.
THE LANDES REPORT

Some bits from that report.

Although there is mounting evidence of widespread computer vote fraud in American elections dating back decades, the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the direction of Craig C. Donsanto (since 1970) has taken a hands-off approach to any serious investigation. And, since the news networks’ exit polls are equally susceptible to manipulation and fraud, voting rights activists in several states conducted Citizen Audits or Parallel Elections as a check against official vote totals. In effect, activists asked voters to go public with their votes. Voters signed forms that include their name, address and who they voted for. Candidates and voters can then use a comparative analysis to check audit results against official returns. Last year, activists in San Diego, California used their results to win a recount. (See: http://www.thelandesreport.com/CitizenAudit.htm)

The AP is in control of exit poll reporting on election night. But who controls the AP? The Associated Press (AP) was founded in 1848. It is a not-for-profit national news cooperative, some would say monopoly, that earns about $500 million dollars a year. The AP is owned by its 1,500 U.S. daily newspaper members. Their board of directors is elected by voting bonds. However, it is not clear who owns the bonds. AP leadership in 2004 appeared quite conservative. Burl Osborne, chairman of the AP board of directors, is also publisher emeritus of the conservative The Dallas Morning News, a newspaper that endorsed George W. Bush in the last election. Kathleen Carroll, senior vice president and executive editor of AP, was a reporter at The Dallas Morning News before joining AP. Carroll is also on the Associated Press Managing Editors (APME)’s 7-member executive committee. The APME "works in partnership with AP to improve the wire service's performance," according to their website.

It is worth noting that former APME vice president, Deanna Sands, was the managing editor of the ultra conservative Omaha World Herald newspaper, whose parent company owns the largest voting machine company in the nation, Election Systems and Software (ES&S), which counts 50% of the vote. Even if the AP’s actions were not suspect, one should consider the obvious absurdity of the situation. The AP reports exit poll data based on secret sources to verify election results based on secret ballots that are counted in secret by private corporations.

Just two companies, Election Systems and Software (ES&S) and Diebold, which were started by two brothers, Bob and Todd Urosevich, process 80% of all votes in the United States. These companies make, sell, and service both ballot scanners and touchscreen machines. Like other voting companies, they also have close ties to the GOP. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska was the president of AIS (which eventually became ES&S) just before he won a surprise landslide victory in 1996. Wally O'Dell, chief executive of Diebold, promised in a fundraising letter to Republican supporters that he would "deliver" Ohio to George W. Bush in the 2004 presidential election.

Sequoia Voting Systems, America's third largest voting machine company, is foreign-owned. In 2003, Sequoia was owned by De La Rue of the United Kingdom (UK). Today, Sequoia is owned by Smartmatic Corporation, which is owned by a Dutch holding company. Smartmatic is privately held. A controlling interest is held by its founder and CEO, Antonio Mugica, who holds dual Spanish and Venezuelan citizenship.

Chuck Hagel apparently had holdings in McCarthy Group Inc. (ES&S) which he failed to disclose.

Louisiana's State Elections Commissioner got caught. Seriously shady.
