Santorum goes beyond politics to a belief system. I would not drop a friend over Santorum because I would not be friends with the bigots and racists that are drawn to Santorum in the first place.
Nope. I'm liberal, but some of my friends are conservative to varying degrees. Life for me is much more than politics, so I don't often discuss politics with my friends. When I do, sometimes I find agreement, sometimes not, but we agree to disagree and leave it at that.
I no longer see one of my friends, because I can't tolerate his racism. But that guy was never a trustworthy person to begin with, and I just quit tolerating him and his ways. Since we were never very close anyway, it was no big deal for either of us. His racism wasn't bad until he married a gal with a bunch of grown kids, and they all are big time racists. It rubbed off on him.
I voted for Ron Paul in the primary. I know a lot of apathetic people who don't vote, some who like Obama, some who like Romney, etc. Thank God, I personally don't know anyone who supports Santorum. Unless it was a strategery "operation chaos" type vote in an open primary, I don't think I would remain friends with someone who could support the likes of Taliban Lite Santorum
anyone who would judge a friend by who a person votes for isn't really a friend. We have friends and a few family members that are so far to the right that a John Bircher wouldn't be right enough and we have friends to the left of left. I would never choose my friends by who they support, every candidate has positives and negatives, none of them are perfect nor are we. So why would anyone think they could not be friends with a person who say, supports Satorum. BTW, I don't think I know anyone who is supporting him either, but most of our friends say they will support the Republican candidate. We also have no friends that support Paul.
I have a good friend who thinks of Glenn Beck as her spiritual guide. But she's not crazy in any other way, so I don't let it affect our friendship. And my brother-in-law, whom I love dearly, is a staunch Republican who really added some life to my very liberal family. He's also one of the most authentic Christians I know, the kind who walks the walk.
Just think of how boring life would be if we all agreed.

Agreed. I have no place in my life for the type of people that could support Santorum and his hateful belief system. Thankfully I have never met anyone that admitted to even liking the guy.
I wouldn't drop a friend over political differences.Peoples political views can evolve a bit over the years and someone who isn't a political junkie may not even know many of Santorums or the other candidates views very well.
It is kind of funny that I think Santorum will likely win West Virginia but I don't know anyone here who admits they support him.
Even if my friends did support Santorum, they can't be too smart...they let me be their friend.

I have a friend at work who is what I would call an Evangelical Uber-Christian Conservative. He nonchalantly flitted from one non-Romney to another to another -- probably part of why anti-Mormon bigotry based bias irritates me so much. He was big on Perry, then Cain then Gingrich and now Santorum.
But I think he's a good sampling of what to expect in November: He'll vote for Romney over Obama without question, so he's not being blinded by his distaste for Romney enough to lose sight of the bigger picture.
I try to stay diplomatic about my opinions on his choices in candidates. He's a very intelligent guy and it hasn't really affected our friendship.
