Please spare me the "if". Romney is the nominee.

Do you believe the Stand Your Ground law will negatively affect Romney in Florida? This is a conservative bill through and through. I can see it rallying up Dems in Florida. My opinion is Romney has to win Florida to have a chance.

Thoughts?

The "Stand Your Ground Law" was only opposed by 20 Florida legislators, so it was actually a bipartisan bill overall. Also, pertaining to Trayvon Martin, even Jeb Bush has said this law does not pertain to this incident.

It won't matter at all.

It will not matter, but I find this thread appalling. A 17 year old is dead, who was unarmed. That should be the sole focus in the case. Who gains or loses politically I could not care less about.

I disagree. We can talk about the various social and political implications of this case, and still be respectful of the fact a death occurred.

That being said... I don't see a direct impact on the election, unless there is a concerted effort to repeal "Stand your ground" laws in the 20 states. In that case, I expect Romney would side with the NRA/ALEC- founded legislation, and take the traditional conservative "pro-gun" position.

Not sure what Obama would say about "Stand your ground"- he's been pretty hands-off where support of gun control laws are concerned.

If Romney says that the shooter didn't obey the "stand your ground law" and should be prosecuted then it will have very little effect. If Romney stands up for the shooter saying he was justified under the "stand you ground law" to use lethal force then it will have a major effect. Obviously, he's not going to say the second, even if he believes it because it would be political suicide.

Amen to that. It should have nothing to do with politics. It's being used horribly for that purpose though.

It is and I am afraid it will be played up. This will be an ugly election.
