Well Colorado might have had only a short stay in swing state land....

Obama has opened up a 13 point lead over Mitt in Colorado according to PPP.

I think its moving away from being a swing state to the Dems. In 2010, the best Republican year in recent memory, they lost both the Governors and Senate race to liberal Democrats. Romney may put some money in Colorado but he's going to pull out before election day when he sees the writing on the wall.

Check the record over the past 10 to 20 years, check and see how mnay governors in Colorado have been Republicans, versus Democrats. The same with congress and how the state votes during Pres years. I think you will see it has been a swing state.

When I first moved to CO in 1980, we were mostly ignored. We had, 7 electoral votes, and we went pretty reliably Rebublican, except for Denver and Boulder. We have grown, now have 9 electoral votes. In 2008, we were considered a swing state and were inundated with political ads.

In our own politics, we've always been "purple". In that time period, we have had four Democratic and 1 Republican governor. We've had 3 Repbublican and 1 Democratic senators, plus one who was elected D and turned R in office. We currently have 4 R and 3 D US reps plus 2 D senators and a D governor.

Since it was one of only nine states that flipped from one party in the 2004 Presidential election to the other party in the 2008 Presidential election. It also flipped in 1996, and 1992 as well. Very few states flipped three different times in the last five Presidential elections.

You can partly blame Californians. Many leave the state for the wide-open spaces, and the first thing we do is infect the local political scene with our liberal virus (The SECOND thing we do is demand good Thai )
