The whole discussion is about the governments role in healthcare. Going to a free clinic is where people go that can't afford other options and as you said, they do get healthcare.
By the bizarre 1950s style "red scare" hysterics on this board, however, all I see is a free clinic representing the most assidious form of socialism and redistribution of wealth!

The government can't deny its customers - the Citizens of the US - service for arbitrary reasons. THAT, in and of itself, makes the government a better healthcare access provider than ANY private, for-profit insurance racket.
I believe that is the basic thought of communist rule, control the people correct?
And isn't that why America came to be? To get away from being told what to do and think, such as freedom of religion.
I soo agree with you, this would be the start of a full circle situation, becoming exactly what we moved away from to avoid.
i think the whole insurance is one biggest scam ever. It's a joke practically.
I like to see universal healthcare actually. Those who can afford higher premium can go to private hospital where you will be spoon feed by a french dressed maid without the underwear and doctors that are almost naked!
Just look at a country i know. Malaysia. I know it's racially suppresion over there but look at the healthcare. I am not saying they are the best or whatnot but at least almost everyone afford it.
For a personal experience
My dad recently has a biking accident. He was in a mountian biking accident. He was knock unconcious and was send to ER with an ambulance. He had his MRI/CAT scans then they performed emergency brain surgery as it has swelling in his head. After a couple weeks or so in the ICU, then wards, he was out to go home. He has to go thru Physical threapy for another a couple weeks and weekly visit to a doc and PT.
Total cost RM 350 = USD$100 (with no insurance)
I think the government should step in and control the price. The whole healthcare systems need to be revamped!
{Quote=BigHouse9]Sounds like socialism or perverse communism (USSR, China) to me.
As opposed to the neo-feudal system that our nation is turning into? You're comfortable with being a serf, but not a socialist?
Wow.[/quote]
I would never be comfortable being a socialist and having someone tell me EXACTLY where my money HAS to go. You can water it down with your analogies to a neo-fuedal system and serfdom but that is just fluff.
Socialism is failure, if only for the simple fact of human nature.

Except that there are very very very few people who would ever argue for a completely communist or socialist society.
What is "fluff" is the constant "socialism this" and "socialism that" everytime ANYTHING having to do with the government is brought up.

Governments role, at least according to the Constitution, is suppose to be LIMITED - You want it to be all encompassing
Answer ths: If our society is not so well off, then why do people, from all over the world, clamor to come to the US? Think about it -
There are those, in the minority, who are trying to change this nation into a total socialistic / communistic society. But, they best be very careful for, to quote Admiral Yamamoto - "I think we may have awoken a sleeping giant" - for the revolt of those who value FREEDOM will revolt against that minority IMO
Considering that the original quote that I responded to was:
"I do not want to live in a society where the few own most and most own nothiing. That is a perfect setting for tyranny."
"Sounds like socialism or perverse communism" was my response. Please find the fluff in that. Just review history and look at any socialist or militaristic communist regime and they are guided by these tenets. Redistribution of the wealth is a part of socialism.

"Most own nothing"?? What a bunch of hooey! I would love to hear his definition of "nothing" - I really would
