I just don't get it.

We've had FAR more socialistic presidents than Obama is. Woodrow Wilson, FDR, LBJ and even Nixon. These guys established things like the IRS, the Federal Reserve, Social Security, Medicare, OSHA, the EPA, and much more. FDR had the New Deal and even proposed a Second Bill of Rights that guaranteed all Americans the right to a job, a home, healthcare, etc. LBJ even proposed the Great Society. All these utopian ideas.

But where is Obama's huge government program or utopian idea? And how or why is he more of a socialist than the former presidents I listed above?

Because "socialist" just like "marxist" and "communist", are simple catch phrases that were programmed into the easily mislead right wing mind by propaganda ministers most notable Glenn Beck.
Anyone with even basic knowledge of what these words mean, know it's preposterous to call Obama one as he is anything but. Though in the simpleton mind of the right winger, they see those words just as something that "sounds scary" and means "leftist" so that's all they need to know to use them.

It all comes down to the far right and their inability to have rational conversations, rather throw around "catch" words, like they are some kind of slur equivalent to such as calling a black person a ni**er, a right winger calls anyone they don't agree with a "socialist' or "marxist"

Default Just counterpart name calling to "reactionary" in former East camp

Nowadays in America politics goes far way into the pattern of former East camp politics, very impressive progress, indeed.

A lot of people on the right just hear from Rush Limbaugh and other talking heads that Obama is a socialist and have no idea what the word means but just use it anyway because they think it makes them sound smart. Considering taxes are lower under Obama than Reagan, Obama cannot accurately be called a socialist. He's center right on a global scale and would be a member of the right leaning party if he were a politician in Canada or Europe, but the American political scene has just out of control Bible thumpers with more vocal cords than brains.

Sort of a tangent, but the whole Nixon was the most liberal president of the modern era is hogwash. Congress was more liberal back then, and they forced his hand on all that stuff. Nixon was the same ol' hateful troll he always was.

The number of sectors within the economy which are subjected to government tampering continues to increase.

What's more the degree of governmental meddling in sectors as basic as health care and education continues to intensify.

If you want a textbook example of the end result of this interference, you need look no further than the "death by Federalization" of the American auto industry.

As just one more citizen of an increasingly complex society, I could understand the rationale for the determination of a basic set of standards -- the construction of a "safety net" which we do (and easily!) have the capacity to fund and maintain.

But the Democrat-Liberal-Radical partnership's insisitence upon imposing these standsrds "from the top down" --at the Federal level, makes two points apparent to me.

(1) Obama and Co. want the growth of that process under their management, so that they will have a continous increase of taxpayer-funded largesse to dole out to their cronies.

and (2) they cannot allow local control because it would allow other people who don't buy into their scheme to weed out the abusive minority within the population to whom government dependency is a more attracticve way of life than a steady job.

Case Closed.

-Father was a communist - advised Kenyan government to redistribute income through higher taxes.
-Mother was "dominant figure in my formative years" "the values she taught me continue to be my touchstone on how I go about the world of politics" - Barack Obama - she was a Marxist
-Abandoned by parents and left with Grandparents - They attended the East Shore Unitarian Church (The little Red Church on the Hill)
-Mentored by Frank Marshall Davis in his teens - a communist
-In college - "To avoid being mistaken as such a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students, the foreign students, the chicanos, the Marxist professors..." - Barack Obama
-Church for 20 years - Black Liberation Theology - Rev. Wright
-"Spiritual Adviser" after Rev. Wright, Jim Wallis. Wallis believes the redistribution of wealth is what the gospel is all about.
-"...when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody." - Barack Obama to Joe the Plumber

To be honest, the guy never had a chance.

Don't think he is anything, If he were a socialist- he would take that ten extra trillion he allows to be spent on silly military stuff- and foreign aid - along with poorly placed bribes;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;and bring those big bucks home and maybe feed a family or build a new bridge- something social- Obama is typical of those who are not socialist nor social in any real way.
