Ummm ... have you ever read Plato's Republic? Can you define the term?
You might find it fascinating that the words "republic" and "democracy" are NOT mutually exclusive terms. If that was the case than we would be just like The Peoples REPUBLIC of China, the Union of Soviet Socialist REPUBLICS, the REPUBLIC of Cuba, the REPUBLIC of Syria, etc.
Interestingly some countries which are not Republics are places like Canada, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Spain, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc.
There are some republics I would not want to live in, and some countries that are not republics where the citizens enjoy freedom and a high standard of living.
However, I personally am in favor of Republics ... just not all of them.
I think people are confused because they equate "Republic" with the Republican Party and "Democracy" with the Democratic Party. Those are just names. Just like the "Dixiecrat" party or the "Bull Moose" party or the "Green" party.
I don't care if some other country claims to be a Republic and doesn't follow it. I only care about this country for now, and this is a Constitutional Republic, NOT a Democracy. Yes, Republic and Democracy by definition are mutually exclusive. The Founding Fathers hated Democracy and called it the most vilest form of government. No, I am not associating "Republic" with the Republican party. This is all off topic for this thread, so please just read up on it.
The desperation in the tone, from the Paul haters has turned to pure survival mode.

It is moving_pains that was calling names, avoiding obvious evidence that 75% of the delegates are in fact bound on the first ballot, said idiotic people should be disenfranchised, and yet doesn't even know that #1 this is a constitutional republic that uses representative democracy and he also doesn't apparently understand that #2 the US government has nothing to do with the GOP rules - or else he wouldn't have brought up the US government's form of government when we were talking about the GOP convention.
Perhaps moving_pains should consider taking his own advice and not vote.

Most people have lives, careers and kids. They can't follow politics 24-7 or go to conventions. Ron Paul's base seems to have a lot of people with a lot of time on their hands. So they use rules and sometimes abuse rules so they can topple the people's vote.
If they cannot follow politics, then they SHOULD NOT vote. Why are they voting if they don't understand the issues?
I'll just leave this here for anyone who cares to see what really happened at the Oklahoma RNC state convention because you're not going to get it in the media.
