Las Vegas rules. If Las Vegas votes Democratic again, the rest of the state simply doesn't have enough votes to over-run the numbers. I expect it will go Democratic; Las Vegas is full of minorities of every race and culture, and the unions are still strong there. Obama still scores very high with Hispanics, Asians, and Afro-Americans, and the Anglos who live there tend to be younger. All are segments that will tend to stick with Obama.

Every other place in Nevada is much more conservative and Libertarian leaning, but they are tiny in comparison to the size of Vegas. Even Reno is much smaller as the second largest city in the state.

The recession is also lifting, and visitors are returning to Vegas. The old numbers aren't there yet, and may never be as high as they were before the crash, but things are improving from what they were 2-3 years ago.

Some will say that nevada has a high mormon popul that will turn out to vote for romney. But that bloc would have voted Repub no matter who was running. To me, all of these factors seem to lean to another Obama victory.
Could be, but you are overlooking a few things: illegals do not or should not be voting and many do not yet, have kids old enough to vote. Yes, the casino and hotel workers are unionized, but there is also a group that religiously do not vote: that would be them. I am, of course generalizing. The Mormon turnout will be high. You are right, they would probably vote Republican anywya, but their influence is why NV often goes Republican. Don't forget there is a heck of a lot of money in NV.. I have to say, right now, I would guess NV is a toss up state...

I'm in Nevada and as much as I hate to say it I think Obama will win this state. It's simply a matter of demographics. There is a very fast growing Hispanic population here and they mostly vote Dem.

In the 2010 Senate election Sharron Angle won the majority of Non-Hispanic Whites...but the vast majority of the non-white vote was for Harry Reid...that made all the difference and will continue to do so.

The state where illegal aliens are encouraged to vote. (documented)

Nevada might be a surprise for some people. Romney has a lot of support and money coming out of there. I would say it's a toss up also.

Oooh, I know this one!

The 'baggers took over the Republican primary and ran a coocoo-for-cocoapuffs candidate who turned a double-digit lead for "unnamed Republican" into a pretty embarrassing loss.
