Obama is the best orator in Washington when he's on his game, but there were several times when Hillary whipped him in the primary debates of 2008.
I believe we will just have to wait and watch. Mitt is pretty wooden most of the time, but when he's backed into a corner, his brain takes over, and he's a very smart guy with fast reflexes. He dominated Gingrich several times, and Newt is a very skilled orator and debater, so I'm making no predictions.
Maybe the odds favor Obama, but the unexpected is always a part of the Presidential debates, and always has been from the very first one. I remember the first; Nixon was the great orator and debater of the 50's in Congress, and he was the predicted winner going in, but he withered under the pressure and sank like a rock afterwards. Kennedy was nowhere as well known as Nixon, but his cool confidence and his willingness to take it to Nixon won him the election.
Really a lot of that debate centered on Matsu and Quemoy, two little islands off China that never had a thing to do with all the world events that followed, and at the time, nobody knew or cared about them at all. But how each candidate responded to the other over this massively obscure issue made all the political difference afterward.
Very much of the perceptions the public comes away with is not from what they say so much as how they say it. Coolness and confidence count for just as much, and often more, than what the responses actually are. I'm going to watch for the beads of flop sweat. Whoever sweats first loses.

Dunno about "debating", but Obama sure seems to be able to sing a whole lot better than Romney (who's apparently tone deaf... about a lot of things). And agreed, "coolness" counts!
Obama's major communication problem is that he has nothing left to say, and cannot talk about anything he has done. The major legislative "accomplishment," the Affordable Care Act, is so unpopular that his supporters hate the term "Obamacare." Economic confidence is plunging, faith in government spending has been shattered, and the man has no clue about the connection between employers and employment.
I think he will have a great deal of trouble with Romney in the debates.
Of course, all of those things you mention are just emotion on your part. He's done plenty of things. Pretty good that he inherited a massive economic mess that was mostly caused by Republican ideologies and leadership.
Both are good debaters. Mitt definitely had more than a few slips in all of the primaries. The Republicans had a LOT of debates in the primaries to prep for Obama. Those debates though were all fluff for the most part. Few of the candidates put forward any real ideas. They had to appeal to what is unfortunately a pretty stupid Republican social faux-conservative base.
Romney will be prepared, but it's doubtful that he'll win. He's vulnerable on too many topics. He can't attack Obama on Obamacare given that he passed the same law. He can't really hit him too much on the economy given that Republicans largely caused the mess. He'll have to appeal to moderates and he's going to have a hard time doing that.

Well, when we need a "cool" singer we give Obama a look see, but right now we need someone who is capable of leading this nation out of the mess Obama has succeeded in getting us in...cool singers need not apply.

lol...you are dreaming! You think Obama isn't vunerable on virtually every subject there is??? The only saving grace for Obama is that more than likely the debates will be moderated by those in corner to begin with for the most part.
