You would want to check the interstate systems and where the exit/entrance ramps are. This is especially important if you will have trucks coming and going or if you will have lots of employees coming from various areas. You can find out if new roads or exits are in the planning phase.

It's always nice to know you will be allowed to USE the infrastucture you paid for. Be aware of new projects in the works so you can factor in the tax increase that will follow.

Make sure you are properly zoned. Your local county/city/state would have rules on the zoning and they also can guide you on how to go about with a request to change zoning if this is needed.

If building a new place, they will guide you with the permitting process.

This can be tricky. Best to get a lawyer. This is the stage where you get to find out how much your next polictical contribution will be. And be sure you don't overlook any of the numerous permits you will need. In your planning stages remember there will be a permit fee for every activist organization you can imagine. And don't overlook any. The fines can set you back a bit.

Contact your local county and city to see if there are any grants if you plan to hire employees. Depending on the number of future jobs, you might be able to get decent grants or breaks long term on taxes.

This part can be fun. Or not. Remember that when you take a grant, your dream now has someone else's qualifications to go along with it. If you have the capital to hold you through a few years knowing you can afford the X number of employees required by the grant you're good. But then you probably don't need the grant.

By all means check for any tax breaks. That way everyone can tell you what a POS you are for not paying taxes. All the permits, personal taxes, and employees you've hired mean nothing in the end if you aren't giving half your money back to the govt that helped you get where you are. I'm sure they will cover your losses if theburden gets too heavy. Be sure you ask which office you go to for that. It seems to be a top secret location.

What kind of business are you opening?
You might try a lemonade stand. No I hear you have to go through all the fees and permits for those now too. sarc/off

Yet the Commander in Chief knows nothing about business, which is painfully evident.

Our Commander in Chief is stealing from ME to pay pensions to buy his votes. I hope on his SECOND interview people look a little closer.

If the government is the reason small businesses are successful why only a select few then. Why is it then that everyone does not have a small business. Why are there the chosen few?

Ok, so the SBA will give me a loan? What do I do, go there and tell them about my idea? Someone told me I would have to show my past tax returns and write a business plan. What is a business plan?

If my business fails I won't be personally responsible? If I default then it will not hurt my credit report and they won't come after my house or car because it is guaranteed by the government?

I risk nothing?

Wow, I love this government. Everyone needs to do this.

I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. Thank you Obama for making that speech and telling me that other people will build my business! Got to love this country :-)

Start a business, I don't even have to worry about paying the debt back and other people build my business for me and I get to be rich!!

Life is a box of chocolates!

The president just told us I can start a business and everyone else and the government will build it for me. You heard it yourself. You should do it too!

I wonder why this company wasn't able to make it?

Amonix closes North Las Vegas solar plant after 14 months, heavy federal subsidies - Business - ReviewJournal.com

My goodness, with 15 million taxpayer dollars free of charge... they closed the doors after 14 months.

I guess the govt DOES offer a lot of help. Too bad it's with MY money!

It's perplexing why these companies can't thrive when they have only taxpayer skin in the game. There must be some human component missing that the govt just can't put a finger on. Hmmmmm

Yes!!! Another foiled solar company. Can the govt help us any more?

Maybe if this money actually WAS available through the SBA someone with innovative ideas really could create jobs that would last a few years!

Yup, exactly. It all only takes a few days unless your brand new business is going to be national and/or multi-national right from the beginning.

My biz was small- just me- and it took 2 days to get everything done with the permits. I did go back later to spend some time learning about everything in the city and county codes that pertained to my business, and the officials were very happy to help me out with them.
