I have a POSITIVE Mitt Romney thread running in the Politics and Other Controversies forums until some Mod graciously moves it here, like it should be, but in the interest of fairness, I've started this one.

No Obama bashing, please, except to refute something posted.

Let's use the two threads to get a fair view of both candidates on the issues.

Let me start this one:

1. He convinced Congress to pass the first healthcare reform bill in our history. It's not perfect, but it's far better than nothing. Millions of American's will now be able to afford the best healthcare in the world.

2. He got Osama bin Laden. 'Nuff said on that. The monster is dead and in hell where he belongs.

3. He rescued Detroit and 2/3rd's of the American automobile industry, saving thousands upon thousands of good paying jobs.

4. He saved the banking industry and, by extension, the whole American economy from total collapse.

5. He's ended the too-long running war in Iraq.

6. He's moving steadfastly to end the even longer war in Afghanistan.

7. He's made the Veteran's Administration more capable and able to provide the care which our returning soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines will need.

8. He ended "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" opening the defense of this nation to a group of people who had previously been required to hide their nature in order to defend the land they love.

9. He finally came to believe that the Declaration of Independence principle of the God-given right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" extends even to same sex couples. Think what you may about the morality of it (I think it's wrong), but he understands the Constitution and it's protection of "inalienable" rights.

10. He's refocused our entire foreign policy to challenge and contain Chinese expansion into Southeast Asia, the Straits of Malacca and the Indian Ocean.

11. He's honored our commitments to NATO by answering their call and helping get rid of Muammar Ghadaffi without the loss of a single American life. The world is a better place without that madman.

12. He's putting the right kind of pressure on Iran and has enlisted wide-spread international support for his sanctions.

13. He's restored American prestige abroad.

14. He's eased our relations with Russia by shifting the missile defense strategy from the land based system which George Bush was building in nations on Russia's perimeter and moved it to a sea-based system which still defends Israel and Europe without antagonizing an important member world power.

15. He's protected our vital offshore oil fields from irresponsible development by Big Oil, cut our dependence upon foreign oil by a substantial percentage and made America once again a net exporter of oil products.

This is just a partial list. Anybody got anything else?

That never made it into the final bill. It passed fair and square -- you know, like the Medicare Part D bill in 2005.

But it got the vote, right? And why did it not make it into the bill?

Yup...
• He's also been shifting our dependence away from expensive & volatile foreign energy sources, while encouraging domestic ones like natural gas, which is cheap, clean and plentiful.

• He supports the science-driven evidence for man-made Global Warming, and continues to increase investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

• He helped pass the biggest financial regulation bill since the Great Depression, and supports further regulation, as well as the goals of the OWS movement in cracking down on the abusive practices of the financial markets.

• He's been the most forceful President yet on the controversial issue of illegal immigration, deporting more illegals last year than during the entire Bush administration. Meanwhile he has been forging legal paths for people who came here before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have a clean record and who graduated from high school or serve in the military.

• He continues to support a woman's constitutionally protected right to have an abortion, and more important, a woman's ability to decide how many children to have and when, without interference from the government, or any other groups.

Not Good News:

GM is in crises mode. 93% of General Motors' 2012 profits were based on subprime loans. GM auto increased loans to customers with FICO scores below 660 rose from 87% to 93%. This is risky lending practices again. Exactly what happened with the housing crash, now GM is taking a failed approach to increase sales. Stock prices are $19.70. For the taxpayers to get their money back the stock price would have to sell for around $50 - $54

It's a recovery goosed by government fiat under the static condition of a bad (jobless) economy. The GM subprime auto loans puts a damper on President Obama's claims to have rescued the automaker and restored it to financial health.

President Obama? Class act all the way, looked upon with great respect around the world, impressive academic credentials and is doing as good a job as possible as President considering his opposition is doing everything they can to thwart his efforts at improving Americas problems and they focus only on making him a one term President, unfortunately for them the majority of American voters arent buying the extreme rightwing teabagger ideology that the GOP are so desperately clinging to so President Obama will prevail in winning a second term as President.

Even with all the GOP obstructionism and filibusters he's managed to accomplish all this, imagine what he could have accomplished with a friendly opposition working together to improve America.
