After his disastrous overseas trip, conservatives are urging Romney to quickly change the subject. One way to accomplish that would be to pass on Portman and Pawlenty, and regain the initiative with his VP pick by selecting a more charismatic, arch-conservative, like Rubio or Ryan, even if there is a danger he will overshadow the front-runner:
Romney's preferred strategy, of playing hide the ball on his record, taxes, and policies, and letting the bad economy do all the work for him, is not working. He needs a game changer.
He's in a bad position on the VP choice. The only individual who gives him a significant bump in the polls is Condoleezza Rice - and she's unacceptable by today's Republican Party.
VP selections don't matter except when they hurt. Romney can't be made better by picking someone the rabble loves. He already has those people. Bottom line: Romney is toast no matter who runs with him. The only point in picking a VP would be to move that name to the head of the line for 2016.
Since he announced he would seek the presidency, his main theme has been the economy, and jobs.
If elected, just like any other former president, the people he surrounds himself with, will be crucial.
Regarding foreign policy, he will have to choose a person with diplomatic experience, second too none.
He is well aware he has no foreign policy experience, and for the most part, former presidents didn't either when they became president.
So, now back to the biggest issue facing this country, the economy, and jobs.
I seriously think Romney will choose a VP candidate who will be someone from the business community to get the ball rolling on both issues if he is elected, and don't be one bit surprised if the name Donald Trump comes up.
Other issues outside the realm of the economy and jobs can be delegated, as they are presently to cabinet members, leaving the two major issues for the president, and his VP to handle, and I honestly think a Romney/ Trump ticket could get this country back on solid ground .
One of the main obstacles to our economy, and job creation is the influx of products coming from China.
Mr.Trump understands how to negotiate on our behalf to bring China more in line regarding the amount of goods it imports to this country.
He knows how to obtain a workable balance of trade with China.
Those imports are eating away at the very core of our economic future, and it is going to take someone with a proven record of business know-how to turn this economy around.
Both Romney, and Trump are very successful business people, and presently, that is what it is going to take to get this country turned around economically.
Bob.

the VP will be announced in Tampa. It may not be Mitt making the announcement.
