Republicans: Obama threatens defense cuts
"Our expectation was that the so-called super-committee would work harder and come together on a solution to avoid sequestration's devastating, meat-ax approach, while tackling federal spending in a meaningful way.
With bipartisan goodwill, there was a chance for real and lasting budget reform.
But at a moment when presidential leadership could have helped, President Obama was silent. The committee eventually disbanded in failure."

Silent.

Obama Tells Super Committee To ‘Bite The Bullet’ - ABC News
“The whole idea of the sequester was to make sure that both sides felt obligated to move off rigid positions and do what was required to help the country. Since that time, they’ve had a lot of conversations but it feels as if people continue to try to stick with their rigid positions rather than solve the problem,” Obama said. “It just feels as if people keep on wanting to ****** the math so that they get a different outcome. Well the equation, no matter how you do it, is going to be the same. If you want a balanced approach … then prudent cuts have to be matched up with revenue.”

Obama gave them a job to do. This particular Republican states that without President Obama advising them, they were unable to do their job. That's the power of Obama. If he's not there, assisting them, things just don't get done. At least one Republican has the balls to say this.

You could almost read this as him trying to place the blame of the committee members not being able to do their jobs on Obama.

That's like me telling my kids to clean the kitchen together and then coming in and it's not clean and they say, "You weren't in the room, and we couldn't decide who was gonna wash and rinse, so we couldn't clean it." Now you tell me.... is that a valid argument for not getting the job done, or what?

IIRC, Obama wanted to trim spending and increase revenue. The republicans were all on board with Norquist to not raise revenue under any circumstances. Once that was clear there was no negotiation to be had.

I think the republicans know that the White house is lost to them this election, and now we have damage control to try and save what they won in 2010
