(CNN) -- People don't generally care what politicians read. But Rep. Paul Ryan is different. His fascination with the Russian-born novelist Ayn Rand could spell trouble for the GOP's new vice-presidential candidate. It could put him at odds with the Christian right and the Roman Catholic Church.
It all depends how much you believe that he is in the thrall of Ayn Rand.
He went on to say that "the reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand. And the fight we are in here, make no mistake about it, is a fight of individualism versus collectivism.
Paul Ryan can either be an objectivist or a Christian. He can't have it both ways. He faces a serious problem among Christians, moderate Republicans and others who dislike Rand's views if his expressions of support for Rand are believed, rather than his denials.

Ayn Rand is dead. She had some valuable lessons to share from which Ryan learned. Just as some of us may have learned from our grandmothers. He's older now, more experienced and has developed a well adjusted political activism. He's not an atheist, he's not a libertarian. Just because he appreciates Ayn Rand won't make him either.
Today, Ryan is a result of growing older. A part of growing up. We should all try it.
That's kinda like asking his running mate whether he's for or against Romneycare, Bain outsourcing, abortion, gay marriage, guvmint handouts, attacking Iran... (you get the idea)!
Is Obama for or against Frank Marshall Davis, Wright, Resko, Aries? How come we never saw these questions come up on CNN?
Last time I checked, Ryan wasnt mentored by a commie, didnt start his career at the home of a terrorist, and didnt attend a far left racist church for 20 years.

Ayers was 'just a guy in the neighboorhood' and Rev. Wright was 'like an uncle' to Obama.
