"Mr. Romney’s answer puts him on the same page of the issue as Mr. Paul, the congressman from Texas who is Mr. Romney’s only remaining active opponent in the GOP presidential race. Mr. Romney’s embrace of the Paul position puts him at odds with Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, who has said a broad audit would be a “nightmare” for the board. Earlier this year, the House passed Mr. Paul’s bill to grant the Government Accountability Office the power to conduct such a broad audit, though Senate Democrats have shown no inclination to bring that bill to the floor. Mr. Paul has been lobbying for the Republican platform committee, which was to meet later Monday, to add the Fed audit as an official position. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, the committee’s chairman, told The Washington Times last month that he supports accountability at the Fed, and said the committee was looking at a number of Mr. Paul’s ideas."

Romney backs audit for Fed, vows

See, you Ron Paul people did make a dent.

I suspect it is only campaign rhetoric to lure Ron Paul's supporters under the GOP tent. Romney will say anything to get elected as his historical flip-flops have proven. If the fiscal Conservatives in the GOP win the Senate the FED can be audited as Reid will never allow the bi-partisanly passed House bill to come to the Senate floor for a vote. Those running for Senate need to be pushed on their stance for this more than Romney.

At the end of the day I like the idea of simply ignoring The Fed the best (see Rob Gray's testimony before the Congressional Finance Committee early this month on parallel currency). Making the federal government and the foreign controlled Central Bank irrelevant in our daily lives is the key to reclaiming the liberties upon which this country was founded.

That goes back to the importance of making Harry the Minority Leader.

X2, the only time Paul's real audit the fed bill came up, it was co-sponsored by the most outspoken progressive in congress at the time grayson, and also was supported by another strong progressive kuchinich as well as others.

The GOP establishment would never sponsor any kind of legislation to audit the fed, it would stop their insane spending dead in it's tracks.
