Amazon counts the political books sold state by state and whether they are conservative or liberal books.
This year, of political books that Amazon currently has sold, 57% have been conservative and 43% have been liberal.
I don't think this speaks much for the election's outcome, as Republican voters on average have more education than Democratic voters, so it would make sense that Republican voters would read more.

Hmm. The best-educated states usually vote for the Democrat for President.
Most of the least educated states vote for Republicans.
I didn't mean to say that it was lopsided or always dominated. However, Democrats do tend to win the drop out of HS vote, which is why you see the Democrats do very well with those in and near poverty. Republicans tend to win the go to college vote. Yes Democrats tend to win the PhD vote.
However, the average Republican voter does have more education than the average democratic voter.

It's more important to look at how people vote than how states vote. Anyway, michiganmoon is partly correct and partly incorrect. The least educated voters (high school dropouts) lean Democratic when compared to the electorate as a whole, but so do the most educated voters (those with postgraduate education). Those with Bachelor's degrees but no postgraduate education lean more Republican than any other group.

If one applies your logic to this map, then it would suggest that Mississippi has the highest number of educated Republicans...........

No. Because as I pointed out, both parties have millions of voters who didn't go to college and did go to college. All states have voters who are not educated and other voters who are educated -- this goes for Mississippi and Connecticut.
And of course, just because you read doesn't mean you are educated. However, college graduates are more likely to read.

I thought I said basically the exact same thing that you said.
