Canadians sure are different. It's very usual for a party to actually print a document outlining exactly what the party plans on doing if elected. These policy papers will cover everything from taxes, justice system reforms, education, foreign affairs and so on. These policy positions that are written down make it possible to have an intellegent debate on the merits or lack of in the various platforms. It seems that this would be a very good thing to happen in US politics.
They know by now that a certain demographic will respond to repetition of lies and eventually embrace them as facts.

Both parties lie but Democrats lie less often.

Of course I don't think that. I do know this though. Canadian politicians have to very skilled liars. Politicians running for high office have to be able to lie without getting caught. Since most of them are lawyers that is a skill they excell at. Another thing that is just so different about our elections is that if you do tell a lie about your opponent you WILL be sued. No question about it, our politicians have very thin skin when it comes to falsehoods being told about them. That is why when an accusation is made against an opponent it is almost always made inside the house of commons where you have parilamentry privilege and can not be sued. The member being slandered will challenge the accuser to repeat it outside of the house and if it's not true the accuser always whimps out and is seen to be the coward he or she is.

The thing is though that in Canadian politics you have got to come accross as competent, knowledgeable and most importantly of all credible. When you are seen to be dumb, unimformed and dismissive of the intellegence of the voters you are finished in public life. This is permanent and you had better find youself a different job because you will NEVER be elected to anything ever in your life. It doesn't matter if you are right, left or middle. Canadians just don't like idiots as leaders.

Why does the GOP lie so consistently.

And you are saying that the Democrat party does not? Ignorance must be bliss.

Also because they need to trick voters into voting for them. If they ran on what they really believed they would get a fraction of the votes.

In the end, when tough times roll around, they've always ended up behaving like Keynesians. Now, with these Tea Baggers, they're prepared to send America over the edge, partially our of their abject ignorance and partly because they revile the idea of compromise. Compromise, you see, is evil.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a tremendous correlation between people who use the term "Democrat Party" and absurdly low intelligence quotients?
