Tim Pawlenty, until yesterday, Romney's National Co-Chair, has left the good ship SS Romney (aka the Leakin' Lina ). TPaw, who campaigned hard in the primaries as a guy who would really stick it to Wall Street if elected, just took a job as... (wait for it)... CEO of a major Wall Street lobbying firm!

Pawlenty can pretty much kiss his political career goodbye. There won't be any state other than Texas that would be willing to elect a financial sector lobbyist to represent it in government.
Just like ryan still running for congress mitt cant just drop out like he did in 08. Oh well...he asked for it.
The party "leaders" are, obviously, from the Pawlenty defection to the Peggy Noonan and other criticisms ... jumping ship. When your National Co-Chair quits this close to the election ... it's a pretty good sign things aren't going well.
It's sort of like the 10s of millions who under underemployed, or working part-time in the Obama economy. You get a fulltime gig at better pay, you take it. Pawlenty knew he'd gone as far as he was going in politics, so he took the better job. Simple as that.
Your headline is typical progreseive flack though. But, I know it gives you a tingle up your leg to be cute. It doesn't take much brain power.

Anybody associated with a disastrous campaign like Romney is running is at risk of losing what was left of their political career. Pawlenty's best move might be to get out now while the stench of defeat is not yet official.

You know Biden ran for Senate while campaigning for VP with Obama right? Feel free to come back and accuse me of changing the subject, but my point is there is no reason to believe that that meant Biden thought Obama was a "sinking ship." Same deal with Ryan.
In any case, Pawlenty was offered a great job. They needed someone to fill it on November 1. He has been a great advocate for Romney, but if he hadn't agreed to take this job now, they wouldn't have found someone else and he would've missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
