ACLU voting rights coalition filed a federal lawsuit in Detroit challenging Secretary of State Ruth Johnson’s decision to have U.S. citizenship checkboxes on ballots. It asks if you are a U.S. citizen. It alleges violations of state and federal law and seeks to have the box removed. They claim that checking a box is confusing.
Do you realize how stupid that makes people sound. You are either a U.S. citizen or you are not. What's the deal? First you demand no voter ID, now you can't check a box, or is it that it is they know that by checking a box you will be committing a crime.
Johnson says an unknown number of non-citizens are registered and she wants to keep them from committing a crime.
Is the Obama administration so desperate for votes that they will insult Americans and their intelligence and will do anything they can to allow non US citizens to vote?
The ACLU is not going to court because the check-box is confusing - they are going to court because the check-box is not legal.
"The lawsuit says the checkbox is unlawful because it lacks statutory authority and was not promulgated through a required rule-making process that includes a public notice and opportunities for public comment and a hearing. The lawsuit says it also violates the Voting Rights Act's pre-clearance requirement that the state must seek permission from the Justice Department or a federal court before making changes to election practices that affect voters in two Michigan townships, Buena Vista and Clyde.
In addition, the lawsuit contends that the erratic and inconsistent implementation of the checkbox violates the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause, which requires voting rules and regulations to apply uniformly across the state.
The lawsuit charges Johnson exceeded her authority by mandating use of the citizen checkboxes on ballot applications, even after a law requiring their use was vetoed by Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.

Wouldn't that same checkbox have been on their voter registration form ?
Really..they didn't follow the process to get a yes/no checkbox approved ?
Well, maybe in 10 or 20 years they'll have this all worked out with public hearings and revisions and committees and polls and surveys to see if the public understands this yes/no question and will be able to answer it. Oh and don't forget the millions $$$ in public education so that these poor fools don't get confused when they see this question on the ballot.
Remember, there are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to accept what is true.
