$56 million suicide prevention programme launched as study reveals more Americans take their own lives than die in car crashes | Mail Online

More Americans now commit suicide than are killed in car crashes as miserable economy takes its toll

Previous research has suggested that suicide rates go up during recessions and times of economic crisis.

'Economic problems can impact how people feel about themselves and their futures as well as their relationships with family and friends,' Feijun Luo of CDC’s Division of Violence Prevention told Bloomberg.

I guess the Daily Mail and the people who've decided to spend $56 Million on it don't agree that it's "stupid".

We OFTEN have to go to FOREIGN sources to get a CLEAR picture of the damages done by this inept braggart of a President.

I think what we can say here is that government mandated safety standards from air bags, to anti-lock brakes, to stability control, to crash protection systems, to TPMS (all opposed by the GOP) have greatly reduced the number of injuries and fatalities on our highways. Indeed, thousands of Americans owe their lives or their childrens' lives to brave Democrats who pushed for safety under relentless pressure to stop from Republicans and the automobile industry.

Since he's going to be unemployed in six weeks, I hope this thread isn't a harbinger of things to come.

Too bad for the Obamatrons that the article actually attributes the higher suicide rate over car fatalities to the horrible economy though.

Too bad the author did not consider other explanations. Righties who lack critical thinking skills are a sucker for this kind of story.

Too bad Obamatrons don't actually READ articles before they make fools of themselves:

Quote:
Higher automobile standards were credited for the decrease in deaths on the road, with harsher penalties for underage drinking and failing to wear seat belts named as contributing factors.
