Mitt Romney's Campaign Forced To Clarify His Claims After First Presidential Debate
Romney was successful with the approach of making outlandish claims that failed the truth test in the primaries as well. It is his MO. It is hard to deal with that on the fly because you never know what is coming like in his denial he wants to cut taxes. He can say whatever he wants and if he is emphatic enough and presents it well, the public apparently will fall for it - at least temporarily. There certainly is some ad material in contrasting what Romney said last night with what he has said on the stump and I suppose we will see that going forward.

Obama was talking the "an imposter, a different Romney showed up for the debate last night" line today. It may have legs. How about a body double ad?

When the candidates were discussing social security last night, the President said if you were older than 55/56 nothing will change. Romney used 60 as the age limit. Did I hear right?

Please enlighten us: What, exactly, is Romney's foreign affairs agenda?

No teleprompter...he was largely the same as always when he has to actually answer some tough questions.

The poor man is just in over his head.

I am glad. I love Obama's strategy and Mitt is so gullible and can't even see it

Interesting, to me it looked like Obama might pee his pants.

So basically, Romney seemed to have owned the debate last night, but it comes out today that most of what came out of his mouth was lies.

If htat's the strategy that Obama is coming out with in the debates, it's somewhat effective.

What a difference a day makes. I think part of Obama's lousy performance is that he was just caught completely off guard by Romney's lying about the stances he (Romney) has taken throughout the campaign. I know I was. Still, saw a comment today that fact checking works best when it is done during the debate and not the next day. Obama missed a lot of chances to pull back the curtain on Romney.

As long as it is coupled with an ad that shows a hand in Obama's back that pans to a wide shot of the teleprompter.

He did. And the fact that Romney won the debate on lies looks even worse on Obama.

I don't think Obama is going to let that continue moving forward to the next 2 debates, I think we'll see Mitt thoroughly beaten.

Either way, that the Mitt won the debate on lies makes this opening debate rather useless.
