Just heard an astounding figure that voters 65+ are breaking 65% to 35% for Romney. That compares to 55% - 45% for McCain during the 2008 election. This will probably be the difference in the election though very few commentators are discussing this. Without question, Obama betrayed retirees by bailing out Wall Street and then financing the bailout by giving negative real interest rates on retiree savings .. and he continues to allow this. It is a disaster for retirees and they are revealing their anger in their preference.

Don't get m wrong. Romney will be even worse, but Romney is Romney. The important point is that Obama distributed money from retirees to the upper 1% and he is about to pay for it. I will shed no tears though I am a lifelong Progressive. Let this be a lesson to all Democrats.

...or, more logically, when he loses it's because he is totally incompetent, and the most corrupt POS in our life time.
You're correct, he hasn't done jack... except for doing his best to destroy our country.. Were he to win re-election, the country is finished

What ? Medicare cuts got through with Obamacare. There's also more medicare cuts next year.
And what is Obama's plan on SS reform ?

And a 1% COLA increase next year while a huge increase in insurance premiums ?

Seniors are finally waking up.

I don't think there will ever me meaningful political change in this country if people do not spend the time to understand how closely linked are political and economic issues.

Obama/Geithner along with the NY Federal Reserve many a conscious decision to bail out Wall Street (Jamie Dimon is a member of the NY Federal Reserve as are other bankers) to the tune of trillions of dollars. This was not Bush, Rush, or any other Republican (though they were happy to go along with it). When this decision was made, the Federal Reserve had to print trillions of dollars to finance the bail out. Printing money not only hurt retirees and the middle and lower class by raising prices across the board, but it also eliminates all interest that retirees need to live on. Without interest, the savings principle rapidly diminishes to zero and retirees are sunk since they do not have any way to replenish their savings. It was a murderous and calculated decision by Obama and the Democrats, especially Schumer.

Most retirees do not understand the underlying economics but they do know that for four years they have not received any interest on their savings and that costs are going up for them much faster than the official inflation statistics suggest. For this reason, they have changed parties en masse. Democrats have something to learn here. Bailing out Wall Street on the backs of the 99% is not only morally repugnant, it is also very bad politics. We will all pay for this dearly if Romney wins.

This is all correct. Redistributing wealth to the top 1% is bad for everyone in the country since less people have money to buy goods and services, leading to an overall economic decline. However, all of these policies began with Reagan and were wholeheartedly supported by all succeeding administrations. People like Perot, Sanders (the Independent from Vermont), Paul (Ron) try to speak about this but they are shut out of debates and the money stream. Romney will probably be worse than Obama because he is cut right from the same cloth. This does not mean that Obama deserves our support. He betrayed retirees and is paying for it.

That's for sure. We have an amazingly stupid electorate. Some of the comments on the NYT blogs on why their parents are voting from Romney would curl your hair.

This is NOT true, and both of you know it. We've had extensive discussion on the Retirement Forum on this issue. You are both knowingly perpetuating a falsehood.

First, SS Cola is 1.7% (that's almost 2%), not 1%.

If you are already collecting SS and have Medicare Part B deducted from your benefit before it is deposited, your Medicare costs go up 1.7%, or $2/mo, assuming your retirement income is under $85k/year.

If you are a high-income retiree, like over $85k for singles, or $170k for a couple, in retirement income - poor things - you pay more - maybe another $14/mo.

Big friggin deal.
