Yes, Republicans are competitive in the NW, but they're generally fairly moderate people, not the far right extremists that have taken over the national GOP. Look at McKenna - pro choice, pro civil unions, wants to equalize education spending and increase overall funding.
I remember Republicans like these that you are describing, though we haven't seen the like in lo these many years here in the Midwest. They used to span the country, but they've been picked off one by one, and they're all but extinct in the middle part of the country, their habitat now restricted to small parts of the Northeast and Northwest.

It would be nice if we could start reintroducing them into the wild in flyover country once more. They were a good breed.

All tied up?

It wasn't even close.

Occasionally, a far right guy runs for some office, and they get thoroughly defeated. See, for example, the anti-SS, anti-Medicare, anti-public education, anti-equality candidate Art Robinson, who got crushed by 20 points despite a massive ad campaign dedicated to getting him elected.
Oregon does not = Washington.

If anything - Oregon is more liberal than Washington.

No wonder that you have a skewed point of view.

Yet another post from Harrier that is completely divorced from reality.

Mississippi Most Conservative State, D.C. Most Liberal

People's professed views disagree with you, as do election results.

In addition to trouncing Romney, the dems took control of the Oregon house even though the repubs and dems were working well together. We now have all three branches. Repubs here might be compared to blue dog dems.

I didn't realize until after the election, the new speaker of the house is a lesbian. Yeah, Karl, Oregon's going to turn red.

Oh wow, that is good news. I didn't know the Democrats won the Oregon House too. Hope this means they will be planning a push to legalize gay marriage.

D.C. is not a state.

When I said that Oregon is more liberal than Washington - I was referring to the state of Washington - not the District of Colombia.
