I am of the opinion that the US President should get one six-year term.
A few reasons I think so:
* Presidents spend at least one year of their first term trying to get re-elected;
* They also spend half of their last term essentially as lame-ducks;
* They have enough time to try to implement their ideas and can stick by them as they don't have to worry about re-election; and perhaps most importantly...
* The rest of us get six years between election cycles!

Obama spend 4 years on campaining!!! On top of that wasted huge amount on Air Force One to be used for his campaign...if he doesn't win a land slide than it is very sad for Nobama!
I think one term of 8 years would be better. One term over 8 years is enough time to establish a clear agenda, and enough time for that agenda to either succeed or fail.
8 years is also enough time for the House to turn over 4 times. The House should, and does, represent the shifting political currents of the populace. The Senate is the intended house for all the hot passing issues to cool down and face careful and thorough discussion. As it is, the Presidency does not have enough time in 4 years to fully complete it's intended job. The most we ever get out of a sitting President's time on the job is 3 1/2 years, not 4; at least 6 months of every term is wasted by the necessities of campaigning.
If we keep voting for people with no basic leadership skills like Obama, I say one or two years is more than enough. All he wants to do is campaign anyway.
