I had dinner with four local OFA FO's and one more from western Ohio, Defiance county, last nite. I asked each about their travels home, Indiana, California, southern Ohio. They were all given gas gift cards that will get all the way home. The gal from LA is making it a two trip, visiting friends all along the way. She is still on OFA payroll.

One thing about OFA is they thought things out. They built redundancy and contingencies into everything we did. They thought of the staffers and their volunteers. There was an unlimited supply of rain gear, hand warmer and flashlights. Even weatherproof clipboards. Blue team leaders saw to the GOTV canvassing operation and white team leaders saw the the care, comfort and feeding of those canvassers.

And the red team leaders saw to the voting process.

By contrast mittens field operation were a disaster. Orca collapsed becuz it wasn't stress tested, ppl were NOT fully trained, and materials and data was missing or delivered late. But don't take my word, deadfart says the same thing... Exclusive - Inside Orca: How the Romney Campaign Suppressed Its Own Vote

That was intersting. My take on it was if mitt could not make sure that his own campaign ran smoothly, then how in the hell would he have ran the country? One more thing, over a billion dollars was spent, where did all go if the minial labor slaves who did the bulk of the footwork did not get it? Did mittens put some of it away in his Island account?

There was no indication that people were left high and dry in other cities!!!
my employer pays for my gas to work and home if there is a great deal of travel involved specifically work related. Staffers are driving all over the place, not just ONE location and home. So if you paid their way someplace but not home.. it's not the norm as far as business is concerned. That says there was a legitimate reason to compensate them for their travels for work otherwise you wouldn't have paid for anything. That is how my employer treats business expenses. If I had to drive my own car to salt lake city for a meeting and they paid for my gas and time there, but not home.. I wouldn't go.. and they couldn't make it mandatory that I go either.

If people had to pay their way home nobody would ever take a business trip. "Look here Ms Smith, we need you to go across the country to work on this project. We'll fly you there but when you're done you have to find your own way home". LOL.

I have no idea if the Romney campaign did anything wrong here or not since I'm unfamiliar with how this stuff works.

I can guarantee you, this is normal. Maybe not an hour after, but certainly within a very short time and normally, the paid staff are responsible for getting themselves back to point A, etc. Before the results are called, no, afterwards, normally, yes. Working on a campaign is very different than any other type of work.

There is nothing normal about what Romney did. The OFA staffers were scheduling exit interviews before the elections, most I know of were to be conducted two days after the election. They had a fixed timeline and both parties understood the terms of the end of service. In Romney's case you cannot say that staffers were informed and understood their comp package would be yanked out from under them within hours of the polls closing. Most were still deployed for the benefit of their employer when the rug was pulled.

Even the lowest level OFA staffers I have talked to were given enuf gas cards to get them home.

Even my wife and I had Votebuilder database accounts for voter research and data entry. Those accounts remained open for several days (Friday) after the election in case we had data to enter or needed to close out work. Those accounts cost OFA and they could have been pulled the nite of, but OFA understood the importance of closing down the right way.

Right. Better to vote for the guy that sticks it to the job creators, and gives everybody free stuff. No matter that future generations will pay for it, and that the money will run out eventually. But hey, he pretends to care.

Wow, I'm surprised a security guard didn't escort them out of the building.

Stay classy, Mitt.

I didn't read all 14 pages of posts, so maybe this has been covered. But after doing quite a bit of research on this, the only piece of substantiated data is that of one instance where a group of staffers in Baltimore had their card declined for a cab ride. Everything else is just conjecture, and mostly reported on left-leaning "news" sites.

I don't think Romney had too many liberals working for him. Your talking points are getting old.

Aides taking cabs home late that night got rude awakenings when they found the credit cards linked to the campaign no longer worked.
Which is exactly what I posted. Where are the confirmed reports of all the staffers supposedly stranded hundreds if not thousands of miles from home with no way to pay their return fare? And as far as that goes, I haven't seen even one quote from one staffer whose card was declined for the cab ride.

I've never been a Romney fan myself, but I know a witch hunt when I see one.
