But more people expected Obama to win in 2008 than 2012!
Rasmussen kept feeding BS polls to Fox News in an attempt to up voter turnout and enthusiasm.
Which makes the question of why Romney got less votes than McCain a little perplexing.
McCain was a better candidate. What was the theme of his campaign- The Straight Talk Express. And he DID tell it straight. He didn't try to trick voters, and he didn't use their ignorance to his advantage- he outright told one woman supporter on the campaign trail that she was WRONG in saying Obama is a Muslim. Romney, on the other hand, was more like the double-talk express.
When you start off as a moderate, then switch to conservative and call yourself "severly conservative" during the primaries, then switch back to moderate during the general election, you tend to get conservatives who feel duped and you get moderates who see the flip flopping and double talk and refuse to BE duped. McCain just had the general Republican message problem, amplified by Americans' disgust with a Bush Republican presidency. Romney had the general Republican message problem PLUS his own double-talk express problem PLUS shooting himself in the foot with comments like 47% and no bailout for the auto industry. The latter two were solely on Romney, thereby making him the lesser candidate between himself and McCain. And his inferiority showed up in the vote count.
When you think about it, this is pretty perplexing.
It is real simple McCain did not talk to the American people like they were complete idoits, his biggest downfall was Palin. More people did more fact checking against mitt because of his constant lying as well
