For instance, what the hell is legitimate rape? There is no representation of a conservative view there. I reject that idea as hard as any of you do.

There are many things that require compromise to accomplish, and I am more than willing to accept that. But there are some things where compromise results in abandoning principals. I predict that in the future, the democrats and liberals will continue to gain a majority of the population and vote. That is something that I will live with. However, I also think that an entitlement society cannot sustain itself forever, and change will be forced on your side too once harsh realities are realized. Until then, you win, and I will continue to vote for what I believe this nation was founded upon: The idea that each person is responsible for their own destiny, that hard work pays off, and that the government should protect it's people, not control them.
Well argued.

Selecting a stronger candidate will not cut it, the GOP has no platform other than their warped religious mindset. You could run jesus on that platform and you would still lose. This is the whole implosion of the R-W as you have injected religion into politics so much you cannot tell the difference anymore. Not only are you turning off the youth with this archaic thinking and fairy tales, you are exacting the same in the political arena.

The economy is FUBAR and global but the GOP are the ones that run on entitlement except that that entitlement is for the whites only. Look at your base, you're a bunch of whiney whities and you are EXACTLY like the right wingnuts were here in SA in the late 80s and an early 90s.

The idea that you do not have a war on women is NOT reflected in the many statewide new laws passed on the abortion issue. You argue like morons trying to redefine globally accepted science and a precedent that has stood for 40 odd years in RvW. This and the issue regarding SSM is all that rallies your base.

YOU ARE NOT INCLUSIVE at all.

Don't want an abortion, simple don't have one. Don't want to marry a same sex, simple, don't. It is your base that is trying to FORCE their SICK and pervasive morals on society and falsely claiming the US is founded on "xian principles" is a lie. The folk wanting affordable health care and the right to marry whom they love has Eff all to do with anyone.

With the veiled racism that is soo apparent in the GOP base, you folk should be discouraging the population growth of the poor as they also happen to be not white in most cases. Your logic astounds me.

You wish to defund PP because you all think it is your personal tax dollars providing this. Well yes that is what is happening and that is how caring for the needy works and if that is socialism - so be it.

Remember the story from your "good book" about the good Samaritan? See that is the parts the Dems are applying. What is your solution? Pull yourself up by your bootstraps? Even your jesus said you will ALWAYS have the poor with you, buy a clue and read your bible, you may learn something.

The message you send out sound a lot closer to that of WWII Germany where the undesirables were simply exterminated. Is that what you really want?

Was the universal message of liberty

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Or was it

Abandon hope all ye that enter here?

As a conservative, I don't feel "humiliated" at all. I feel empowered that I voted my conscience and my personal values in spite of constant hammering from the left wing media trying to convince me that I have to agree with them and have no right to my own opinions. I feel proud that so many of us (still roughly 50% of the country) stand by traditional values and won't be swayed by the nonsense that is tearing at our society like a ravaging beast and may eventually destroy it. When I hear someone complain (often!) about how the government has gotten too big and is usurping what used to be unquestionably personal rights, I feel good knowing that I voted to prevent this very thing.

"Humiliated"? Not even close!

I think a lot of liberals forget how people are going to feel after four more years of this administration, especially when the President can feel more free to push his personal agenda due to not having to fear not being reelected. I have a feeling that a lot of people will be feeling by 2016 like they were just hit by the biggest and most destructive hurricane they could have ever imagined. Then watch for things to swing back the other way, in the name of common sense and trying to preserve what's left of our once free country.

Obama is a conservative. That is the one aspect I don't like about him, but I voted for him as he has accomplished some good with the ACA and the enconomic clean-up, saving good union jobs in Detriot, etc. In addition, he was the best alternative to the now-insane right-wing Republican Party.

I would put it differently than Ms. Madow, in that I don't care if the right-wing is humiliated, I just want them kept out of power (democratically, of course) so they can't inflict more damage on our country. I would like to see President Obama provide more support for unions in the corporate sector especially so that the check on corporate greed and abuse can be strengthened. Reviving the Employee Free Choice Act, protecting the National Labor Relations Board and giving it more power, etc.

Didja happen to notice the hypocrisy here? It's OK for you to push your personal agenda, but it's not OK for the democratically elected president ...

This is how I feel, but from a left-wing perspective. It may be in the nature of attorneys and the law that compromise is necessary in their view, but when President Obama starts talking about compromise vis a vis the social safety net, that is unacceptable to me (yeah I know, he always calls me to consult). Protecting and expanding the social safety net in our country is a bedrock value for me, and it is baffling how he starts out every negotiation by caving in to the opposition, even when he is in a position of strength. Yes, I know we have the House to contend with.

If the Republicans want to play chicken and drive over the fiscal cliff, I say 'floor it' and the start out fresh from a new beginning in January, making sure the social safety net is protected.

As has been pointed out here: 1-the popular vote was close: 2-who controls the house? 2-how controls the governors? 4-why should anyone feel humilated? If anything the libs should grow up and stop the gloating..They have very little to gloat about, no one does, really....A coupld of idiot candidates running for Senate made some really stupid statements. They do not represent the entire GOP or even the views of most conservatives. Turn their comments around and the senate might be held by the Republicans. At least the Republicans had the sense and decentcy not to elect either one. I believe the Dems elected a senator who lied about her ethnicily and gained special privilege because of her lies, yet she got elected...

Thanks so much for telling us how to we should be thinking and choosing our candidates. I am sure, your living and being a person from another country understand how we in our country think. Next time you want to post about how to elect your leaders be sure and do so, then we can tell you what is wrong with S.A. BTW, it might interest you to know, how the liberal media sees things and how they really are, can be very different. For the most part the GOPS are not a bunch of right wing evangilicals, anymore that the left wing are a bunch of say, Atheists...

where are your unions standing up to massive illegal immigration?

just curious where you think they stand on that, and protecting AMERICAN workers.

maybe they flee their state when the votes come up.
