I have heard rumors of Sen. Kerry (D-MA) getting a place in the Obama administration, so that could lead to another Special Election in Massachusetts.
Any other possibilities you have heard of?

Kerry is the only Senator I've heard floated as a potential appointee.

Hmmmmm... Deval Patrick v. Scott Brown? ...

Note -- most states just go with gubernatorial appointees to fill Senate vacancies, with the special election not scheduled until the next cycle, ie 2014 (assuming the term just doesn't expire at that point, anyway). Massachusetts is one of only a few that have special elections in the short term.

No that would leave a vacant governers office, maybe a 2010 Rematch? or Menino

Besides the Kerry one, I've heard Whitehouse (RI) and Deval Patrick floated as AG. I'm in Rhode Island so I've heard more local stuff then anything else. If Kerry becomes SOS I truly pity the people of Massachusetts. No state should have to endure 3 Senate races in 4 years.

Edit: I don't think Menino is going anywhere. I'd expect Brown or Tisei vs. maybe Patrick, Setti (aka the other) Warren and Stephen Lynch

Nothing unusual about a sitting Governor running for Senate. And vice versa. Patrick has already announced he's not running for re-election again. And if he won, of course, Tim Murray would be acting Governor until 2014 -- there wouldn't be a vacancy.

I doubt you'll find many Democrats wanting Coakley to run again.

I know some states do not have a special election, but Whitehouse was just re-elected Tuesday, I can't Imagine a state apointee serving would would be a complete term (give of take a few days)

Patrick would be a great AG. Holder needs to go.

If I remember correctly, in RI the governor doesn't appoint, we just have a special election.

Shame they don't at least appoint a temp, so does RI just go without a Senator for a few months?
Also it would be intresting to see who Chafee would pick If indeed he had the chance, considering that was his old seat.

I stumbled across this mildly interesting article about potential departures/replacements in President Obama's cabinet.

A look at expected Obama administration departures - News - Boston.com

Kerry is the only Senator listed.

I see that Huntsman is also listed at State.

Michele Flournoy as SecDef would be interesting.
