$22 trillion in debt when Obama is out seals the deal, therefore arguing about gay rights, immigration, abortion and other such silly things is irrelevant. Who cares about "joining" with the views of crazy liberals who just sealed the death of the US. In a new US, there will not be a social democracy and only property owners will be able to vote, thus eliminating the "treats for votes" system which is on course to destroy the US.
Secession will occur as a matter of course, as citizens of the old US (at least in the civilized regions) will not allow thier regions to descend into chaos just to remain a part of a bankrupt, dying nation. The obligations of the US are for the US. When an area is no longer a part of the US, that "obligation" is eliminated.
Your wet dream of secession IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
Red State editorial - "Is It Time to Roll Up the Welcome Mat Here?"
A few years ago, Barry Goldwater himself observed that the religious right would bring the Republican Party to its knees. Today, we see his prophecy being fulfilled.
Dear GOP: you were warned. By one of your own. Your fate is in your hands. We will all watch how you either evolve or perish.
I "did not get my way" in the 2008 election either, however, it was not the end of the US. Obama promised to cut the deficit in half and to restore fiscal sanity- he did the opposite.
This is an issue of THE NATION "not getting its way".
I really do not care about social issues. However, when we have reached the $22 trillion point when Obama leaves office, we have sealed our fate. In order to escape the chaos that will occur as a result of marked currency devaluation and hyperinflation, states will break off from the US government as a matter of course.
Tell me- what will the nation do after $22 trillion in debt to remain solvent and intact????????????????????? No liberal has been able to answer that.
Well this is certainly a lofty goal. Not to try and make the United States of America a better place for all it's citizens, not to inspire the citizens of other nations to realize what can accomplished by people having respect for one another, not to forge an environment that encourages and enables everyone to reach for the stars.
I think the point is that Eric Erickson and Red State have been band leaders in the past for the far right end of the R base, and if he's coming to these conclusions, big change may well be on the horizon.

.
He also had no way of knowing when he made that promise that for 4 years the GOP half the government was going to sit on their butts and stonewall, obstruct and filibuster every piece of legislation he sent before the legislature.
As for the burgeoning deficit? you seem to want to think the government isnt going to address the issue and create a self fulfilling prophesy that it will be $22 tril, you are entitled to that opinion as am i to opinionate that when Obama leaves office that debt will be well below 22 tril i'd say half of your figure.lF it is $22tril when he leaves office then congratulations on your excellent fore-site.
So if you kick out the crazies, the racists, the religious fundamentalists, the conspiracy theorists, and other associated nutters and focus on moderate conservatism, what then differs the Republican Party from the current Democratic Party? You would basically have two center-right parties. Or maybe that allows the Dems to move back to the left and the Republicans can go back to occupying the center.

I think that's exactly what will happen. The D's are only in the center because Clinton put them there to win races. The D's are, for the most part, currently what the moderate end of the GOP used to be.
Even here at RedState, while we may not much care for him, President Obama is still our President and we are still quite happily citizens of the United States. If we must drain this fever swamp that’s taken hold of a few people on the right over this past week before we can drain the swamp in Washington, so be it.
A pretty reasonable and level-headed commentary by the folks at Red State:
Quote:
Barack Obama won. He won by turning out the most people in a well run campaign. In other words, he won fair and square. … We here at RedState are American citizens. We have no plans to secede from the union. If you do, good luck with that, but this is not the place for you. … Too many people have spent the past four years obsessed with birth certificates. Now they are obsessed with voter fraud conspiracies, talk of secession, and supposed election changing news stories if only we had known. … Even here at RedState, while we may not much care for him, President Obama is still our President and we are still quite happily citizens of the United States. If we must drain this fever swamp that’s taken hold of a few people on the right over this past week before we can drain the swamp in Washington, so be it.
The extremists should take note of it.
