I do not like Mitt Romney. I was made unhappy while watching this clip of Romney explaining to a wheelchair-bound lifelong muscular dystrophy sufferer that he would indeed arrest him for his "crime". I don't understand how someone who considers himself so religious could so clearly lack compassion: Romney confronted (http://gloob.tv/news/romney_confronted_medical_pot?article=1976 - broken link)
Marijuana isn't some miracle like you describe. There's plenty of other pain killers on the market without needing to implement illegal drugs, like Marijuana, which fuel smuggling.
gizmo980 and burdell seem to make good points. What are the differences between prescribed medicine with dozens of warnings about their use, and weed, which has fewer warnings on its label? Contra-indications for most drugs are not red flagged sufficiently imo but emphasis on marijuana is an endless debate.

And what about the number of people undergoing chemo who have testified that marijuana has been the only drug effective in giving them an appetite? They should be denied because of some misplaced fears of "Reefer Madness"?
Marijuana is useful in the treatment of several diseases and disorders. I have MS. It helps to control the "pins and needles" and spasms associated with MS. Criminilizing it is just the result of money and politics. Please read this article if you want to know more. TheDEA.org: A Short History of Prohibition in America

more info for those that like to be informed
When there's a marijuana lobby donating as many $$$ to political campaigns as the makers of oxycontin, vicotin, codeine, etc. you'll likely start seeing equal tolerance of marijuana among lawmakers.
Right On!
Doctors over prescribe many drugs which are FAR more dangerous than marijuana. There is NO lobby because NO drug company can benefit from a drug that ANYONE CAN GROW THEMSELVES!
Smuggling? Precisely why it needs to be legal.... but the truth is that most pot is grown right here the good ole' U.S.A.
(Sorry to re-fuel this thread but I just saw it and wanted to give props to burdell)
