Assume Biden as the dem candidate, Romney as the republican candidate. Obama has brand name value and a billion dollars to spend, but isnt part of a mainstream democrat or republican party. How do you think the election would go?

Suppose there existed a parallel universe where there exists an Evil Spock with a goatee. Would the Easter Bunny leave money under your pillow for lost teeth?

You can't start with a fantastical assumption and expect a rational argument to follow, gtc.
When an incumbent President announces he will run for re-election, that's the end of it. There may be some nutbag outlier within the party who tries to become the nominee, but the incumbent party always gets behind their President in short order.

The only scenario where that would happen is if the UNION states could not vote.

Not totally, if there was a strong 3rd party candidate that took votes from the Democrats, then there would be a chance that Romney would of scored enough votes to win the election.

It would have required someone at least the stature of Huntsman. In short, Mitt lost the electoral college by a trouncing.

No. A viable third party will never be.
