The date: August 8, 2011

The place: West Wing conference room

After a particularly contentious and unproductive meeting over the debt ceiling limit, President Obama points his finger at Eric Cantor, and says:

"Eric, don't call my bluff. I'm going to take my case to the American people"

The rest, as they say, is history!

I don't agree. I think this was one of Obama's weakest moments, and the worst part was it was an attempt to look strong. Don't call my bluff... [I still remember doing that when I read the quote...lol] You just gave away your bargaining position!

I'm just glad he learned this time around and is going through these negotiations like a boss.

A big part of bluffing is not tipping your hand. Sometimes a player has nothing, and sometimes it's a royal flush.
All Obama did was raise the stakes. He knew he held the cards.

I don't think there has been another President who has kept in such close contact with his base, except for Franklin Roosevelt. That contact was one of the reasons his operation slid so smoothly into high gear as soon as the convention was over. Everyone was fully prepared, trained and ready.

Yesterday was the official cracking of the republican party coalition, and I don't see any way the republicans come out of this looking like a reasonable bunch of people unless the mainstream republicans like Boehner, Cantor, Hatch, and others dump the tea party. Seriously, they just need to roll over and let Obama take the victory lap. It's not the democrats who are kicking their members off of committees, so what does that tell the average person who's keeping up with this even casually?

Uh, huh, and good luck with that!

Elections have consequences. Too bad so many Americans aren't bright enough to see what's coming.

Then he created the cliff so that he could increase taxes o the ones he said he favored and try to blame it on Repubicnas. But we know he said he would let them expire and that he voted no on nthe debt ceiling when hwas president. He has made alot of flip-flops and promises it seems.
