It doesn't have to be hatred, a lack of "comfort level" is probably a more accurate way to see folks point of view. BTW, I think Romney has a similar issue on the Republican Party side of the discussion.
First, this needs to be moved to the presidential forum. Second, there are several other threads about this.
Aside from that:
Yes. There is a lot of racial tension, hatred, and more in this country. And it goes in all directions.
As far as Obama is concerned, here's the general idea of the voters:
A) Many "black" people that I used to work with have made a claim that they would vote for a black candidate because the "white man can't represent them"
B) Some "white" people won't vote for him because he's black or because he was/is trying to appeal to the "black" populous.
C) Some people won't vote for him because they don't agree with his thoughts, opinions, and ideas.
D) Some people will vote for him because they agree with his thoughts, opinions, and ideas.
Personally, I don't think race, skin color, gender, or any other personal appearances should be looked at when choosing a president. What should matter is the political platform - and America's looking down a rough path until people ignore outside appearances.
His religion matters more to me than anything. Not to sound bigoted, which I know I will be, but I don't want an ex or supposed ex Muslim running our country.

i would have liked to have voted for himb/c he seems so likeable and it would make history, but he's just too far away from the issues that i support. hillary is also, but i'll probably end up voting for her so that a repub won't mess up the supreme court any more than it already is.

1 - I'm not allowed to joke the Supreme Court. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is my relative
2 - We shouldn't have to chose between the "lesser of two evils"
3 - Don't just vote for her because of her party. Choose a candidate solely on his/her/its platforms.
I think it is unfortunate that many hate people based upon religion, race, sex, etc.
I will admit that I do not feel comfortable, because of recent events, about Muslims and politics. I think that is very ignorant on my part, and I am working to fix that, but as of right now I can't stomach the thought of having a Muslim president.
But I do not hate Muslims, nor paint even a quarter of them with the same brush. I believe their are many flaws in their religion, such as their treatment of women, but I know the vast majority of Muslims are law abiding citizens providing an income for their families to live on. Completely respectable.
Would anyone here vote for a gay black Muslim woman who represents the Communist Party of America?
