Sure, I see that. But my personal view is larger than just winning the battle. A good republic needs competition by multiple competent, reasonable candidates, not two sides who will support their candidate regardless and screw the other side.
and I am one of those that actually doesn't like to see both houses and the executive branch from the same party. We need 2 sets of ideas and need a balance..We also need the houses the the Pres to be able to compromise and work togehter. Too bad we don't have that today..

Sure. But that will never happen in a party where any candidate who doesn't go full on extremist faces a serious primary challenge.
We've been through 4+ years of "we hate everything the president likes, even if he likes something we proposed." It hasn't made the country better. Split government is great when both sides are interested in helping the country. It's a disaster when one or both sides decide that they'd rather destroy the nation than give an inch.
love the idea, but it won't happen, His wife, apparently is anti political and when he thought of running last year, the media made minchemeat of him because of his wife leaving him for a dr and then coming back. The media just can't separate private lives from politics when we are talking Republicans

This question of yours is a perfect example of why Democrats and Independents don't vote for Republicans any more. Too many devout conservatives can only see extremes in the political spectrum; it's all black or white for you.
The majority of voters want representatives who can see the shades of grey that lie between the extremes. Representatives who are willing to go against their party leaders and use their own wisdom and follow the wishes of their constituency, and not robotically vote as they are told by their leadership.

Just out of curiosity have you bothered to check and see who the independents supported in 2012? Obviously you have not!!!

Absolutely. Well said. This country needs a sane, healthy and competitive Republican Party, and needs it badly.
It kills me to see them demand that their candidates are so ideologically pure that they can't get elected and ultimately, it makes a joke out of the party.
Ronald Reagan warned Republicans about this approach years ago, but they simply won't budge.

Republicans aren't called the "stupid party" by even their own for no reason. They could be logical and put Chris Christie in the drivers seat and have an above even chance to win. Won't happen, it will likely be a bigoted nutter like Rand Paul.
